[Linux] Crash after crash since previous patch.

Hi.

Looks like i, as linux user, got myself into a trouble.

On live evrythings is working fine. But since today last patch on previev, game is crashing like crashy kanguroo.

Veryfication gives no result, Tho this crash have intresting scheme. 2 ways:

10 min of gameplay and game crashes.

or

log into char, relog on another and again relog on another, and get crash on loading screen. In this scenario game always crashes in same moment.

Loos like no memory leak.

My 6GB ram is on 50% when game crash
Graphic card ram is on about ~30%

Unfortunetly wine/playonlinux debugging tool fails on it job and gives no error log.

10k word sides (lol) of log, last 1k was in this temo ^.

I know linux is not officialy supported with Cryptic, but i have our "linux guy" is still working with us and can provide some help.

I rly hope this build wont hit live. ;)

I am nonstop crashing as well, also many toons that are now invalid. Kinda hard to test anything when i spend more time logging in than fighting. To be honest i am kinda over it, bored with running Tiamat and wanted to test Mod 6, looks like that isnt happening now either. About to go play some Mike Tysons punchout i guess.

Maybe we should just post here to show how many crashes we have instead of the crash report system. i will start.

Heh lost my 65 toon due to reroll, now i try to make one r70 with copies of only 2 tomes of exp. Which means around 150 kowies, and with this ratio its 75 logins into game.... its a pain, and i wont be able to test anything anyway, coz of thi crash evry ~10min.

    Lovely.
As another linux user who currently doesn't have problems, if this hits live, I'm screwed.

I wonder if crypticcliff is still around after the recent lay off's , wasn't it him that usually found fixes for linux issues in his spare time.

    Ok.

I can provide some feedback. First off all, not all instances crashes, only few of them. Not only those which got some changes in mod6. Surprisly Ebon Down also dont crash. What crashes on loading screen:

Protector enclave - i may say it crashes 33% of the time, but basicly it crashes after if load it 3rd time, which is weird, but...
Helm's Hold - gets me crashed for about 70% times i try to enter.
Relamation Rock - had no successfull enter so far, both newly copied toons, and one inside. Totaly done for.
Skyhold - last time loaded successfull into instance after about 6 tries.
Vellosk - same rate as Helm's hold
Mount Hotenow - crash after crash, just like recRock
Tower District - around 50% enters r crash
Blacklake District - crash after crash

Cant test any new map besice reclamation rock, i just dont have patience to make another quest and go there. Both my l65 and l70 stuck in limbo. Thats where my patience goes.

EDIT: safe mode allowed me to scratch out my l70 from Mount Hotenow, but its far as it goes, trying to reenter it crashes game again. BTW, give us opyion to change back Dx to 9, pretty please?

I don't know that this issue is specific to Linux (client instability). I'm running Windows 8.1 and have been having the same issues with crashes since the last patch. Everyone else in my guild who's been spending any amount of time on the preview server has been having the same issue.

So... if this affects all platforms (!) r u saying i may have a chance to play this game in mod6? coz they will acctualy fix it?

After reading your issues here I did some "panic testing". But I didn't notice big performance differences between live and preview. Using fresh copies of two of my chars I was able to do the mod 6 introduction quests without any problems - no crash on entering PE, no crash on entering Skyhold.

So I guess it's no Linux problem like the one we had when mod 4 was released.

Thats kinda a relief, but now, what is going on? Maybe some hardware issue? Tho i have nvidia 840M, never had problem with this card ingame.

How do use your gpu? Do have it always enabled or are you using optirun/primusrun? I did my test via primusrun. To be sure it's not just that I'm going test things via optirun and plain intel hd graphics. Maybe it's just some specific mixup. (Having a GTX 765M by the way.)

edit: I played another hour on preview now using just intel hd graphics. No problems with that gpu. I even had increased fps ;)

So I didn't see anything released in the patch notes, but there seems to have been something done to resolve this issue for myself and others I've been playing with. We tested it by logging in/out on several toons, and switching zones (all of which previously caused crashes every 3 or so zones/character changes, and occasionally just walking through town). I'd be interested to hear if some of this has been resolved for you Linux users as well.
