i get having a lot of alts. i have 6 alts myself. but why have multiple accounts. i dont see any reason for it when you can do everything on one account.
I can think of a few:
1. People don't want to spend money/AD on character slots. Silly of course, because eventually it'll be more expensive transferring the AD through the AH than the costs of simply buying the slots. Players aren't always the brightest light on the ceiling.
2. Some people use 1 account for PvP and 1 for PvE. So when they get put on ignore because of their PvP attitude they can still do PvE if they want to.
3. Storage accounts. Bank pace is at a premium and an account full with lvl30+ characters with 3 free bags (and possibly some bought ones) appears to be a good way to create storage space.
1. It was early in this games life cycle. I wasnt entirely sure if I was going to like it or play it for an extended time period. So I made a 2nd to test out other classes.
2. Storage.
Found out at the end I enjoyed it enough. So then I contributed dollars to cryptic/PWE. I do regret making my CW on the other account though. Especially since I did nearly all the boons except ToDs.
I don't see many veteran PWE game players here apparently. There don't have 50 character slots in other PWE games. If you want to play all the new class/races, you have to create new accounts. When PWE bought Cryptic, all PWE accounts automatically became Crytpic account.
I, like many others, have several accounts because that was the easiest way to try all the classes out before deciding whether I was going to play the game longer term. Those other accounts are mostly unused now. For a while I did leadership on them but that fizzled out as I expanded the char slots on my main account. Last time I used most of them was the Christmas event. So now some of those unused and unloved toons have interesting/valuable BOP companions and/or tokens tokens hehe. I log in and invoke occasionally, mostly just to see if the account is still active!

Exactly! It took me a few months of beta to start getting into the game. I had never played a PC game that required the use of ASWD keys plus mouse at the same time, so wasn't sure how quickly I would adapt to that as well.
Of course, now I wish I did not have several accounts!
And I would definitely pay to combine accounts, but that has already been discussed a bit.

Another reason which may seem WIERD to a few is RP (roleplay). This can be used both fair, and foul.
Fair:
Keeping track of RP account vs PvP or PvE account
Different playing aspects (pirate chr vs noble lady?) of RP
Each account has a specific profession as a "job" that suits the RP
Other reasons can exist.
FOUL:
Using one account to godmode or anti-godmode for the other
Hiding to "spy" on RP partners
Trying to "get a new start" when original account is banned for ___________
Using one account to RP with yourself on the other account for more attention (Yes, people do this!)
Other reasons exist there too.
In summary, one account IS easier, but two is not necisarilly bad. It's just inconvenient on some aspects.
" I tried to figure out the enigma that was you, and then I realized mastering Wild Magic was easier." - Old Wizard in Waterdeep
"Why is it dragons only use ketchup? I'd like a little wasabi please. Us silvers like a variety of condiments."
"Don't call them foolish mortals. One, they don't learn from it. Two, It just ticks them off." - An Ancient Red Dragon
I have 3 account's when i began to play NW about 3 years a go i wanted to try all classes , and i didn't want to spent money on it because i didn't know if i would stay or not that was my reason , now i use 2 accounts for storage and for AD only and i buy stuff in the auction for my most importend account.
I read all the reasons but still none is sufficient for me to want the hassle of managing multiple accounts.
So I guess I don't get it either.
There are not a whole lot of differences between managing characters in multiple accounts or a single account. The "hassle" of managing 50 characters in one account is basically the same as managing 50 characters in multiple accounts, which are inhuman efforts.
I guess if you don't get why people want the "hassle" of managing 50 characters in 1 account then obviously you won't get why people want the "hassle" of managing 50 characters in multiple accounts.
