While I appreciate that this was rationalized as an anti-botting measure, this morning it took four minutes after logging in for one character's professions to finish. All were completed, but the delay was even longer than it has been in the past. Since gateway is not working properly, that forced workaround is not available (Sorry, enabling an unsecured connection is simply not going to happen). I'd like to play more, but I don't have unlimited time.
Given the number of bots still running Sharandar and other places, clearly this measure is not stopping the bots - who unlike actual players DO have unlimited time.
Please remove professions delay immediately. Please do not bring it back once you fix Gateway.
The right to command is earned through duty, the privilege of rank is service.
A very anti player measure that one would think would have zero impact on botting activities. This idea should have been erased from the drawing board before even being discussed, let alone actually put into a game you want people to enjoy.
Anti-botting measure should be anti-bots only. Every anti-bot measure in this game hurt players more then bots as they are time restraint which a bot as plenty of.
I dont know why everyone refers to it as to anti bot measure. For me it looks more like a resource saving and dealing with the db and service load and front (queue) control. But yes, its pretty annoyin.

It's *possible* that's true, but the small amounts of data that we should be talking about here makes it unlikely. Toss in the fact that they didn't apply the same delay to Gateway, which should be accessing the same DB in pretty much the same way, if not exactly the same way, and I'd really have to say it's something else. And I'd guess it's one of two things.
First, it's a bug. Not like there's a shortage of those, but the fact that they don't say it's a bug kind of makes it unlikely also.
Second, it's intended, and probably not as an anti-bot measure but as a measure to make leadership farming less palatable to more casual players.

Yeah I can see why someone might vote "don't care" if they just don't do much with profs but I can't fathom why anyone might vote "no".
Like most others, I can't see how this measure makes any difference to bots other than by slowing them down for a few seconds each "cycle", hardly a big hurdle.
These delays cause a sleep(30) in bots and a lot of frustration in players, if they were to be an anti-bot measure, they failed hard.
Also, I don't think bots would use the actual game client, using gateway is far easier and more convenient... (you can run only so many game clients on an average machine, but you can use pretty much an unlimited amount of lightweight browsers or use HTTP calls directly).
I first thought the delay was on my end..as I investigated I found this post. I'm a returning player from 8 months ago-started playing first week of open beta, so I have a lot of toons. What use to take me 20 minutes to run through my professions now takes me over an hour. PWE, please listen to your players and fix/remove this delay as it has put a large strain on the enjoyment of even bothering to log in, knowing much of my game time will be spent waiting unnecessarily.

I have basically switched to using the gateway for professions 99% of the time. The 1% where I handle them in-game is if a profession task happens to complete while I'm actually playing, (so not really paying attention to professions anyway), or when a character first unlocks professions early on. These steps, as others have rightfully pointed out, mostly hurt good, honest players. There are several steps that can be taken to actually diminish bots' effectiveness, without this kind of impact on players. How about a "collect all" button, which requires the user to answer a CAPCHA or some simple question, (like present 3 random pictures, and ask us to identify one), to bypass the timer?

They're instant on preview. There's still a little delay before you may collect them, but they become available for collecting all at once.

From the moment this delay started I began using the Gateway before I logged into the game just to sweep through my alts and complete my tasks...it also reminds me to click on Sword Coast Adventures and get my free stuff for the day. I don't see the completion delay as that much of a problem.

Not to mention I would imagine it is significantly easier to write a botting script for the Gateway itself!

Okay, Panic.
It's the internet, and you know what dwells here.
When I asked Akro about it in game (right when it began) he responded with "they're looking into it." And then nothing more.
The usual suggestion would be to use the Gateway instead. But...
