Hello community, I'm going to be playing the xbox version of this game and I'm looking to play the GF.

But so far in my research I'm not seeing good news about the class. Now I know that mmos are full of Debby downers and nay sayers, so I'm coming to see if there's any positive light at the end of the tank tunnel. All the mmos I've played in the past I was the main tank and loved it. I so want to be able to do that in neverwinter! Is it needed? Required for endgame? Or am I basically wasting my time?
I also saw some pvp videos of GF absolutely wrecking, so that has me hopeful. I believe we get the game at mod 4 as well.

So people, should I do THE GF or go rogue?

If you want to go the tanking route and being welcome in groups I would either do a GF or a Paladin. You will bring buffs to groups and agro management which is key on bosses. You may find the solo daily missions a bit slower but if you enjoy the overall style of the class you should have fun.

I don't think we're going to have the paladin available to us at launch, it wasn't in the beta.

GF is an excellent class to roll if you have (or make) good friends that go really hard glass cannon dps. The amount of punishment a non-uber well played GF can survive far exceeds almost anyone at the moment. I spent most of my time until end-game just soaking and it worked well in terms of quickly generating gear and money.

That said, this game occasionally turns into a solo grind fest, insert time and speed run through daily quest. By design. It is a feature! In those times, the GF doesn't feel very strong or very interesting.

I'm a tank fan, and I've played a fair few MMO's, but so far I really enjoy this one ONLY because of how the GF plays. GF is a pretty **** solid class who can be specced into moderate damage (you're not gonna match the beavy hitters but that's not your style) or a solid buffer/guard tank. I've finished dungeons this last week a few times being one of the last alive, kiting a small hoard behind my shield so my dps can take the boss, or just keeping the heaviest hitter turned away and slapping uselessly at me so the crew can go to work. BUT, you're only likely to enjoy this fully if you play with a group. It's great fun but personally I enjoy it most because of the class synergy.

Yes later dungeons apparently need a good tank. pvp? No real idea yet.

Ok good deal! That's some positive insight. I do havea group, there's four of us. Me the GF, a gwf, a dc, and a CW.

The main problem with a GF atm is that we've powercreeped to the point where nothing needs to be tanked anymore. DPS classes can tank everything with enough lifesteal and damage. Now you guys will be starting on mod 4, and the lifesteal system is changing in mod 6. So even for us it's possible that tanks are going to be more wanted soon.

Gonna deifnitely make the paladins, with their heal/tanking mix, a lot more desirable :(

When has healing or tanking been...desirable? Currently the paladin lacks DPS, in a big way. For that alone its not ever going to be more desirable then a DC or a GF. Classes that can do the same job, and still provide more DPS.

..... Well tanking was desirable for me. I didn't pick the guy with the big shield so I could cast powerful magic or do insane damage .....? right?

another question(Yes, i'll be new too the franchise at console release, just planing things out ahead of time):

If i was going too go hybrid guardian fighter [Swordmaster Tactician] my best option for the my last 10 paragon point would go (3 improved vigor - 2 take measure - 5 stunning flourish) or should i go into the Protector tree with plate agility and shield defense?

Figure i could work around knight's challenge and anvil of doom and flourish for PvP + villain's menace (CC immune) and steel defense for dmg immune for PvP if i wanted too go offense but then there more of a choices too go support build over [conqueror and protector imo]. course i realize the mobility will be lacking but there is a reason it's called tactician, i'll figure something out.

    http://nwcalc.com/gf?b=oh3:248n5e:1dtkq8,1xj3500:1k0u00:100000:1z050v&h=0&p=smr

for now just curious about what i should go with the last 10 paragon points.

Correct, I'm assuming mod 5 is tyranny of dragons. And we'll have the current pc version of class balance. How does that affect the GF in game?

I'm really REALLY looking forward to the GF on the box, I had a blast with the class in the beta.
