regarding companion bundles, such as ghost, astral deva, etc, when you open the gold box, does the companion bind to you (character) then and there or does it bind to your account, or does it stay unbound. i tried to open one and it gave me the message that i would no longer be able to sell it (not worried about that) but i need to know if it binds so i can make sure which character to put it on.
Did you buy it while your account is on probation? Did you buy your zen through Steam?
Or, perhaps. Was it a Deva bundle? The companions in my Deva bundles (the only bundle I've bought in the past) were not bound, however, the gear inside was bound to character when I opened it. I heard that more recent companion bundles do not have the equipment bound to character upon opening, but I haven't tested this to be certain.

my account wasn't on probation. i buy my Zen through Arc. The boxes themselves say Bind on Equip, but when I tried to open one, it said i wouldn't be able to sell/trade it. I have 4 different ones (Astral Deva, Ghost, Helmite Paladin Ghost, and Wild Hunt Rider) but I have one character that is pretty much maxed out on companions, 2 different characters that I could use them on, or 2 more slots for future characters. I would just hate to open one and have it bind, if I didn't need/want it on a certain character. I don't mind the gear binding, just the companion itself.
You could always copy your character to the preview shard, and open them there, to see how/if they bind when you open them.
Yes, do this. Most definitely.
I bought the Epic Ghost box when it was available and everything in it was BoE (though once the Bonding Runes were equipped not only are they bound to character, they are "fused" with THAT companion; cannot be unequipped.)
I also bought the Epic Helmite Paladin box, but saving that for when Mod 6 is released (pair of Paladins wreaking havoc, one alive the other dead.) I should open it on Preview also just to play with it and make sure all is as it should be.

Okay, I have nothing more to add to this thread, except for the fact that this is a totally awesome idea! I expect screenshots to be posted at some point.
Okay - I've copied to Preview and opened the Epic Paladin Companion box:
Helmite Paladin Ghost: Bind on Equip
3 Lesser Bonding Runestone: "Double-Click to Improve": Unbound
12 Codex of Companion Experience (25500 Points each) - Double-Click to Equip/Use): Unbound
2 Vigilant Eye of the Deity (Companion-only Ring, Epic): Binds on Equip
1 Faulds of the Vigilant One (Companion-only Belt) Double-click to Euip/Use): Unbound
For kicks here are the stats:
Belt (can equip only on companions):
138 Power
138 Recovery
138 Defense
138 Deflection
Defense Slot
Rings (can equip only on companions):
138 Power
138 Critical Strike
138 Recovery
138 Defense
Offense slot
Also: it takes 8 Codex of Companion Experience tomes to rank it up to Epic (which is level 35) - I still have 4 Codex books left over, which I can see on AH for a pretty diamond or two. Training from level 0 to 35 in one shot takes 19h 12m. Rush cost (if I want to spend that) is 17,648 AD.
