Because they can get the highest bonus to a single stat, and because they are nerfing crit into the ground with next mod, the original belts are now superior.
why?
Because every point in the ability score that gives flat 1% to crit proc is a flat adder that is not affected by the 'crit number' that changes based on your character level. Every one of those % is precious.
Only question now, which ability gives paladin crit?

What if you want +2 main stat +2 secondary stat? And you also want the set bonus thing from the belt+artifact+cloak, eg lathanders. Is that so bad to have a more well rounded character? +2 extra main stat can't be THAT much better can it?

I get over +1000 damage every hit from imperial set right now.
Stats from original belts would give me waaaay less damage bonus that I get from imperial set bonus.

It's true for class that rely only on the primary stat to give them crit increase.
But class like CW rely on Cha (secondary) for it. So Black Ice Belt feel a lot more interesting as it give both the primary (Int) and the secondary (Crit) an increase.
Yeah I think the new stat curves don't necessarily mean that the original +4 belts are now BIS for everyone. I think it means that we all now have to specialize to a certain degree. So for those builds which will specialize in a high-crit chance, then they will want the belt that delivers high crit chance. But others may not want such a build.

that's true, particularly for class like GF that doesn't have an ability that adds to crit (they get the shaft imo). But things just got more interesting. True, you can specialize in other things, but if you've played many mmos, you know the most vital stat of all is stacking chance to crit (and also crit magnitude if you can). You get way more bang for your buck than anything else.
Btw, where does this info come about wis + char with feat giving crit chance for paladins. I checked the preview server and paladins cant be created yet. soooooo,..... where is this coming from?

They can you just needed to restart the client again. Pallies get crit from wis and if feated with a t4 heroic feat crit from cha as well. Con their main stat also gives DR.

by T5 heroic feat do you mean a feat in one of the paragon trees?
By my calculations, (as human) you can start with 18 in wis and 12 in char. With legendary stat belt you can have a 29 wis by 60th, and 19 char (id taking feat for char crit, and while also retaining 16 con).
flat bonus to crit with nothing from critical stat from eq that is on curve based on level,... is 31% flat bonus to crit (with 3% crit feat also added).
Seems like Paladisn will be the new crit monsters. make sure to get dancing sword and Eryines companions to boost the yield of crits. and perfect vorpal of course.

First of all con is going to be you main stat second the base damage from Pals at wills/encounters are so low that even if you crit 100% with a perfect vorpal you will do far less then other classes with 0% crit and no weapon enchant.
Dont get your hopes up for compeating with damage as a Pal because it wont happend. Crit will basicly do give you more temp hp and more healing done to the party depending on your Oth (more heal or more dam).
Paladin is created to be a support class that protects the party with some utility tools such as more ap gain more damage etc. As it stands now on preview, we have an ability that gives 10% of your hp as power when you fight, not even having 10k more power towards others will get you anywhere near dps classes with either at wills or encounters(of whish non actually does decent damage).
Just some info for what you can expect so you dont invest to much in items that dont help you or help you less then others.
interesting,.. ill have to check preview, so you can get +% crit from two stats at once? sounds op
Paladins have no stat that gives them +damage just so you know.
They might end up having the highest crits, but they certainly will be far behind everyone when it comes to these crits strength, only a single daily can give nice numbers, everything else is subpar.

Don't forget nothing for Arp either. Pallies are going to have a real hard time clearing anything imo. They need at least one of these to be given by stats, power or arp. IMO they could really use both, as could all classes.

only remember: black ice belt give both the primary and secondary Added to this MORE 2 atribute points in level 70!

It won't be that bad for Protection Paladins:
Oath Of Protection:Your Damage Resistance is increased by 10%, you generate 500% more threat. When you take damage you gain power proportional to the amount of damage you took. This bonus caps at 10% of your Max HP in power.
Of course, this means Prot pallies have effectively 7k+ more power than devo pallies.
Basically anything that maxes a flat % rather than stat points is going to be the best choice. Stats, feats, boons, what have you. With the exception of radiants in defense slots because there is no curve on HP. So ofr instance I'm getting 40% of my crit chance from my crit score and less than 1/2 my delflect from deflect points. This insulates some from the coming curvepocalapse.

No that would be me not proofreading what I write and making a typo. That should read t4.

Players who got level 61 on PTS all say the same-pally got lower DPS then GF.
