Not sure if a topic on this has been posted but I am curious as to the drop rate of the Sigil of Metallic Ancestry for the dragonborn subrace from the Dragonforged Lockboxes. I've got about 120 or so in my bag now and I was thinking of buying some keys when I got paid to try my luck. Anyone know about what the drop rate is?
Also am I the only one who thinks it's kind of a bummer that they put a subrace inside of a lockbox?
Opening a lockbox expecting a specific drop is foolish. Better off just going on the AH and buying it (they are BOE and were some there last I checked).

Good luck. 14-17 million a piece depending on the mood of whoever was lucky enough to get one and didn't use it himself.
With a generous ZAX rate of 480:1 this is 35416 Zen or ~$350 or 310 lockbox keys.

That is insane! I mean I saw one in AH earlier for like 12 million but still that is ridiculous for a subrace! I would much rather pay about 4k zen and be guaranteed the sigil than shell out who knows how much on keys and hope RNG is on my side.

It is, but it fits Cryptics business practices and them constantly pushing the boundaries of what they try to get away with.
That sucks lol aw well guess all I can do is open up a buncha lockboxes and hope I get lucky. Still I hope they don't do this again in the future with anymore races/subraces.

Okay, so just so I'm clear on your strategy here...you said you're going to give Cryptic a ton of money BECAUSE they put a subrace into a lockbox, in the hopes that they won't repeat the action that got them a ton of your money?

j0Shi made the test already, it`s ~0.05%

Which means you need to open $2000 worth of boxes to reliably get a single one. This, in turn, should shed some light on why Cryptic continues to insist on what amazing deals their bundles are.
That said, even the Gorgon and Iron Golem have abysmal drop rates. This current box is almost completely worthless.

The chance to get the or one of the grand prices out of lockboxes is 0.50% since quite some time now. The Dragonforged is no exception. The Battlefield Medic also has a 0.50% chance of dropping from the Neverwintan Defender's Pack.

lol naw I'm not going to give them a ton I'll probably pop open a few the mount and such look interesting too but while I would love to have the subrace I'm not interested enough to spend untold ammounts of cash just to open boxes.

Sure, in theory, but in practice the numbers posted above indicate drop rates of half that, or worse. A 20000 box sample size is pretty sufficient for me to accept the results as more or less accurate.
This is why lockboxes are successful. They prey on people wanting to get a chance of the higher rewards, show an admin message to reinforce that it's possible and hide the chances so that you keep at it until you give up and then hope for better luck on the next lockbox. The fact that the odds are incredibly low I quite shameful imo.
Sadly the outcry over this is a lot less than about the $75 dragonborn, so it is unlikely that Cryptic will change anything.
The outcry over this, is my screen constantly being spammed with "So-and-so got an X from the Dragonforged Lockbox." They are NEVER going to stop doing lockboxes, but they will continue to lower the odds on them and increase the impact/value of the items inside them. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to eventually see classes/paragon path unlocks etc. hidden inside lockboxes.

In my opinion the outcry over this is much much lower than the 75$ Dragonborn for two reasons.
1. This is really just a reskin with a very slight racial ability difference which doesnt change much.
2. Dragonborn are almost the *best* choice at any class.
So technically, what some of you are saying is actually true. This really is just a "cosmetic" alteration.
Funny enough, I thought I saw one in game ... but it turned out to just be a regular Dragonborn. I guess if you are creative enough you can almost make a normal Dragonborn shiny.

I'm always surprised anyone opens them. I remember my first time with lock-boxes, it was STO I wanted to get the Temporal Science Vessel bought over 100 keys before I realized if I had just sold the keys I I could have bought the thing. And the rewards I got were only worth about 10% of the value of the keys.

Exactly I wish it were a Zen shop item. I don't like the idea of wasting tons of zen opening chests to see if I get the darn thing lol.
I wish they would focus on making more cosmetic items to put on the cashshop. I think we could explore customization in this game a lot more

Are you telling me someone opened 20000 lockboxes???
Such tests are performed on the preview shard.

Really, putting a freaking SUBRACE in a lockbox is an brand new low in my gaming experience...
I completely agree.

Please don't give them any more ideas...
that's why you dont open lockboxes at all...
99.5% of cases you lost money

Bad math. 99.95%, in this case. It's actually ten times as much of a ripoff as normal lock boxes.
