Hello guys,

I am a new DC player. I would like to ask what is DC's divinity and empower abilities?. How do I channel divinity and cast empowered skills?. I am hoping any DC experts could give me an explanation on how to effectively perform these abilities .

Thanks in advance.

Tried pressing P ingame and reading the tooltips?
Also try the Search option of this forum, with the rework there are plenty of threads about DCs new Divinity.

Think of it as three "gears":

Normal (first gear): encounters deal their usual damage. I'll use 100 as a simple example. So a "normal" (first gear) Daunting Light deal 100 damage to the foe. Then cannot be used during the cooldown - let's say it is 30 seconds.

Divinity (second gear): Daunting Light now deals only ⅓ the damage, but there is no cooldown - so you can cast it immediately as many times as you have divinity charged-up. Think of it as "turbo". Three Divinity Daunting Lights will deal 100 damage (33 each). What is the benefit? You don't have to spam Daunting Light; you can use one Divine Daunting Light and a Divine Astral Shield and then something else, just remember that each only deals ⅓ it's normal affect. And in most cases it may deal a different affect in addition to, or instead of it's normal affect. For example: SunBurst does dome damage and heals, but does not buff or debuff. Divinity version does opposite (if I remember correctly) and does ⅓ the damage, Empowered does both. (I may be wrong on this - I'm just using this as an example of the possible differences.)

Empowered (third gear): Using an encounter power in divinity mode gives you a "token" (a.k.a. "stack") for Empowered. So if you have enough Divinity to fire-off three Divine-mode encounters, you'll gain three Empowered 'tokens'. You can see this as mini orbs floating around you (each one of those is an Empowered Token). The next Encounter power you use will be "Empowered" - it's the strength of its affect will be based on the number of Empowered stacks (tokens) you have. In many cases this increases the damage the encounter deals, so Empowered Daunting Light will deal 200 damage in our example.

So here's the short and simple:

Normal deals the normal affect with normal restrictions (cooldown, etc.)
Divinity deals ⅓ the affect, but with zero cooldown.
Empowered is an "overdrive" version of the Encounter power that deals extra affect.

With these three "gears" you have more variety and tactical freedom than in most other classes. For example: in a sport car on a winding narrow mountain road you'd likely down-shift to create high-torque to speed around that dangerous curve with more control, then punch it up again afterward. For the DC it can work out similar: you're in a battle and want to toss a heavy heal, do you build-up that divinity, use a chosen encounter power or two or three to "earn" your Empowerment, then at the right time you fire-off your Divine Glow in Empowered form for that bonus the Empowered version gives, etc.

I know my description is oversimplified without a lot of detail, but hopefully helps you understand the differences and why you may want them. :)

You can now really pick 3 encounters that have good synergy and produce amazing combos by using the 3 "gears" (as angrysprite put it) wisely. Read all the encounter tooltips thoroughly and decide what you want to bring to party or what you need for solo play. All the encounters are now worth using depending on the situation.
