My thoughts concerned about Pillar of Power

Hello everyone!

I am a new guy here, but i still do hope that my thoughts, this message will reach somebody in the developer team.

So as the title says i want to talk about the Pillar of Power encounter ability which is supposed to be the "core" encounter on the Hellbringer paragon tree.

When i started the game/my SW, instead of doing the "typical idiotism" to blindly build up a useless character, i did some research on my class AND at that time i really did not understand the reason behind; there is no guide on the whole internet which recommend even a single tiny-miny point on the Pillar of Power. There is only a very a few guide that even mention it, and still they only says; do not use that ability EVER! (Until this day i have seen no SW with this ability; none/0.)

With the flow of time the mod 5 has come, we have a new paragon tree the Soulbinder, and i completly forgot about the PoP, until today. It still bugged me, so today i did a test play on the PBE just to take a look on the "forbidden" encounter AND yes this ability is straight out terrible.
Pillar of Power: Create a conduit of power at target location which erupts in a blaze of hellish flame if an enemy moves over it. The targeted location must gather power for at least two seconds before exploding. Your other powers deal increased damage (at rank 3 it is a 20% dmg boost) while you stand on the conduit of power.

To be honest i do love the base concept. A magic circle which is powering up the "mage", if the enemy set foot on the cater's terrain then its explode as a trap. 10/10

It sounds cool, so what is the problem?
1st this ability has lower damage than Vampiric Embrace which is purposefully has a low damage thanks to its nice sustain giving.

2nd the recharge/cool down is sarting AFTER the circle expired. Why? Tell me WHY?! This ability already has a low damage output AND for exchange of 20% damage boost, effectively you running only two encounters. At least let us keep it up if we have neough recovery, i beg you please!

3rd and the most important part is; the Pillar of Power creates a conduit of power at target location. HELL NO! There is no way that i want to throw this low damage, 2 sec delayed TRAP on my enemies, THERE IS NO WAY!! This part of the PoP do nothing more than force us to target our own feet in the fight, which is supposed to be a good idea to look the ground under your feet in any fight, am i right? -,-

Over all i do not say the PoP need more damage or better damage buff, i dont. But i do say 2 things; make this power to cast directly under the caster AND make its cool down start after activation instead of expiration.

yah thats one i never bothered with either. I have it but that's only cus i had nothing else to spend point into.

I see plenty of people use it, but im not so sure why they bother.. A mob seems to always run into it which I assume cancels the Power Up (correct me if wrong) and those people are farrrrrrrr behind of DPS

Yeah that damage is pretty low. IF the damage was higher, I could justify it being free targetable. And it has no curse synergy to it either, so wanting to hit an enemy with it is really not much point.

Its only use is to target it on your feet and remain stationary for the damage boost.

the way this skill recharges is similar to the other with the floating orbs. Only recharges after it expires, except this ones recharge is longer.

I thinkt he onlyr eal way to make it useful

is instead of a Damage proc, it should be a full out Root....

Very good way to make use of it too, say your Pad humping, you can stand in your circle and dish out damage, that TR comes up on you and procs the root, you gain a little distance and finish him off ;p

Similar tot he DC chain root, but maybe it should be limited to the First target to enter the circle, and no others, or possibly Slowing others int he circle, and rooting the one.

Obviouslyt he circle is pretty small so it wont be game breaking to do that, but would certainly add that lil extra CC some people are whining for lol

Yeah, in a way the PoP is similar to the Chains of Blazing Light but the Chains has good damage, a nice root. The PoP has high CD, low dmg with no curse synergy, zero CC, and on top of all this has a really disatventagus mechanism that makes me a sad panda. :(

Maybe a push back effect on the explosion could do some good on this ability in PvP at least.

so far the only use i could see for it is in Doms, if you stand on the bridge /pillars you can use it for a little bit, but I still feel liek the damage gain from it wouldn't outweigh the benefit of pretty much any of our other damage abilities.

I really did like using it in lower level (30-40's) range, but upon reaching 60, it is outclassed by everything else.

The concept posted above of having it as a personal cast instead of targeting is an excellent idea. So is the idea of having this as a rooting power, since the class has no real CC powers.

If they reworked it to offer the above points, this would be absolutely amazing. The dmg buff is nice, but it is useless once your character is targeted by an AoE (which seems to be very common in this game).

I still use it only in Epic Lair of the Pirate King (ePK) while speed running. while CW's drop Icy Terrain, I drop PoP.
