  It would be helpful, if you would tell us, what you want to buff with your companions and how you are speced.
  
  Best companion is a agmenting one, ioun stone, cat etc. the rest depends.

  Chars: CW, DC, GF, GWF, HR and TR.

  Find the active bonus that gives you what you need. Only you can decide that.

  For what you mentioned, I like crit, and I like power and recovery. But that does not mean it will will work for you because there is too much I do not know about your build.
  
  Ultimately, you have to understand the stats and your individual needs, and then pick what you need to meet them. Anyone telling you that you must have this pet or that pet is telling you wrong.
  
  I do agree that your primary pet should be an augmentary pet, as the first response indicates above.
