Introduction
WORK IN PROGRESS
Hello,
My in game name is Flash and I have been playing Neverwinter for about 3 months. During the time that I have been playing, I have met many different people. I have also met and learned alot from the best players of Neverwinter. The reason why I have decided to make this guide is to help newer CW's have a reference to use to help build for PVP. Most of the current PVP guides on in "The Library" are
outdated//not viable.
Note: This guide is based off of my personal experience. If you disagree with what I say, feel free to express your varied opinion!
This guide will be arranged in the following topic
Introduction
Prerequisites
Race and Rolls
CW Role in PVP
Abilities
Primary Focus
Stat Distribution
Tips and Conclusion
Comments
Everyone has to start some where.. Whether you are a brand new CW or a veteran, I hope you learn something from this guide. This guide was originally supposed to be for high level PvP, but then I thought to myself, not everyone has the resource to attain the high level gears. Therefore, I will not post any builds on this guide. The construction of your control wizard will be up to you.
Simple requirements
Level 60
Epic Mount (110% speed)
"I can only show you the pieces, but you have to put it together"
Tiefling
+2 Charisma
+2 Constitution or +2 Intelligence
Bloodhunt: You deal an additional 5% damage to targets below half health.
"5% increase damage below half health is actually very strong"
Infernal Wrath: Whenever you are hit, you have a 10% chance to lower the Power of the attacker by 5% for 5 seconds.
"Again a very useful racial trait
I would honestly say that it is the best race for CW. Everything fits for control wizards.
Human
+2 any Ability Score
"Use for anything (INT/CON)"
Versatile Defense
3% more defense
(Small buff to your defense)
Heroic Effort
More feat points, nothing can go wrong with that
It is a decent race for Wizards, however, there are better choices.
Drow
+2 Dexterity
"We are Mages not hunters."
+2 Charisma or +2 Wisdom
"Again not primary stats"
Darkfire
"Reduce people's defense by 5%, 10% chance just isn't worth it
Trance
Recovery in camp fire 2X faster
"Plain useless in PvP"
Bad choice overall
Dwarf
+2 Constitution
"HP bonus for PvP"
Meh, could use +2 for other stats
+2 Strength or +2 Wisdom
You would probably choose Wisdom, but still not that great.
Stand Your Ground
Increased resistance to knocks and Repel effects, guess its a okay bonus. (GWF and GF will knock you till you bleed)
Cast Iron Stomach
Increased resistance to Damage over time effects
"Not bad, but still not necessary"
Not really for wizards..
Half Elf
+2 Constitution
"Again for PvP HP"
+2 Charisma or +2 Wisdom
"Useful secondary stats"
Dilettante
"+1 to Non ability score"
Probably put the point for CON
Knack for Success
+1% Goldfind, +1% Crit severity, and +1% deflect
Playable race for control wizard however, still better choices.
Half-Orc
+2 Dexterity
"Wizard's aren't rogue or hunters"
+2 Constitution or +2 Strength
"Pick the CON"
Furious Assault
Crits do 5% more damage.
Great boost to your damage, because you will gain 100% due to ability for 5 seconds
Swift Charge
"10% speed during combat"
Halfling
+2 Dexterity
"Useless"
+2 Charisma or +2 Constitution
"Preference"
Nimble Reaction
3% chance to deflect
(Depending on your build)
Bold
10% resistance, pretty useful
Menzoberranzan Renegade
+2 Dexterity
+2 Charisma or +2 Wisdom
Faerie Fire
5% chance to apply fire reducing power and defense by 6%
Not bad, useful in some cases
Trance
We don't need the faster recovery in campfire... PvP yo
Moon Elf
+2 Intelligence
Wizards INT= DAMAGE!!!
+2 Dexterity or +2 Charisma
Wanderlust
+1% AP GAIN and +1% stamina regen
Boost may seem small, but pretty good
Moon Elf Resilience
Resistance to crowd control 10%
Sun Elf
+2 Intelligence
+2 Dexterity or +2 Charisma
Inner Calm
+2% action point gain
More for PvE but decent gain.
Sun Elf Grace
Resistance to CC 10%
Pretty good
Wood Elf
+2 Dexterity
+2 Intelligence or +2 Wisdom
Elven Accuracy
1% critical strike
Wild Step
10% resistance ability that slows your movement
Dragon Born
+2,+2 any attribute
Increase heal by 5%
Increased Critical Strike and Power by 3%
Dragon born works with every class and it is my personal favorite. However, Thiefling is an excellent alternative.
You can be the one that hunts down the squishes and and obliterates everyone in your path. Or the control wizard that can survive hits while playing a supporting role, enabling your team to nuke the target down.
My Point: You choose how you want to play your control wizard and you build accordingly.
The concept is simple:
If you are an aggressive player, you build more offensive at the cost of defense.
If you want to play safer and live longer then you build more defensive at the cost of offense.
Balancing both offensive stats and defense stats is key. (More will be covered in stat distribution topic)
Of course it is not all that simple, many other factors make up a build.
Note: Never build full glass cannon for PvP.(DEFENSE IS VITAL) The last man standing is the one that controls the game, not the most damage dealing one. PvP isn't about kills but it is about outplaying and capturing more nodes then your enemy. You can have all the damage you want in the world, but if you die what can you do? You can't deal damage if your dead.

Stack ton's of HP for PvP regardless if you are offensive or defensive based.
Armor Penetration
Try to reach 2k+ for ArP, some people in PvP have alot of defense.
Example is my friend Dagult GF:7k defense
CW's worst nightmare
Power
Varies depending on your build, however most of your offensive slots will be dark enchantments anyways.
Defense
Atleast 2k+ defense for PvP
Lifesteal
The more lifesteal the better, for more sustain...
Tenacity
Just use PvP gears and you should be fine. Otherwise, you will need to stack tenacity.
Regeneration
Free heals, might even save your life.
how is it comparing to a full set purified and corrupted?:)
