2X Enchantment and Runestone Weekend Feedback and Oversights

Hi,

So oversights in deployments really make the game look rushed out and sloppy. From the tooltips updates(or lack there off) after a skill or item is changed, to the typos in quests and lore entries not forgetting the new companions missing some attributes and advertisement of events or sales that have change but the announcement has not been updated. These really give the game a feeling of being cheap and not at all refined.

My latest grype is with the 2X Enchantment and Runestone Weekend. The event announcement clearly stipulates:

As you adventure through Neverwitner slaying enemies, when you would normally receive a Rank 1-5 Enchantment or Runestone, you will instead receive two of them!

So it was a nice surprise to see that Very Large Chest of Goods and Large Chests of Goods from the leadership profession and Coffer of Wondrous Augmentation to also be affected by the 2x up.

But why were Draconic Strongbox of Enchantments and other chest/box from Lockboxes not affected? That makes no sens to not give this bonus on chest that requires zen to acquire unless it was one more oversight.

Here is a suggestion to try and cull this epidemic:

Add a checklist for all new content type to the QA process before putting them in production. Yes this may look like a waste of resources short term but it will save time and resources not having to fix these oversights with future patches.

Here's a few example:

New companion:
- Active Bonus: Check
- SCA Dice: Check
- Sound effect volume: Check
- Have a coworker proof read the tooltip: Check
- Etc: Check

New 2x event:
- All sources active: Check
- Removed other possible sources: Check
- Announcement Updated: Check
- Etc: Check

New Quest/Lore
- Have a coworker proof read the text: Check
- Make Objective unlootable by others in the area: Check
- Etc: Check

Going through this every time some new content or changes are made would greatly improve the quality of the game.

I know some players will say bigger fish to fry like game balance and harder content right now, but in all honesty I rather see quality over quantity at this point.

There are two answers for this. One is a very simple answer, and the other is quite technical. I won't bore you with the details of the technical side, so for the sake of time I'll just offer the simple one.

Any loot box in the game adheres to an RNG (Random Number Generator). When they launched the event, they ran a script that changed a single number across a small group of ".ini" like files. These ".ini" files list every possible reward in the game for any given item. A lot of drops and loot boxes in-game share these .ini files. Think of it in terms of a loot chart in a table-top game. The DM rolls 2d10 and whatever the percentage roll (The ID number) is looked up on a chart. ID = Item, okay? The .ini files are those charts, in a way

However, The Strongbox of Enchantments and Lockboxes access a completely different and independent loot table that have their own unique drop rate (which is why you tend to get the same stuff out of em over and over). Those couldn't be changed while the game is live, as they're embedded in the server itself, without taking the game down for maintenance.

    Hope that helps!

There was a maintenance just before the event went live and there will be one just before it ends, at which time ALL sources could be updated.

You're right, everything could have been. But you have to understand that this event was created, added, and uploaded in the span of days; not weeks like most of their pre-planned events are. This was sort of thrown together on a whim as a thank you for reaching a goal on Twitter. Could they have gone the extra mile and fine-tuned the loot tables? Sure. But they would've risked seriously breaking something server-side, or even worse; open up an exploit that someone discovers at 1am and spreads the info about across 0-day message boards like Digital Ebola and temporarily ruins the Auction House for a week.

I'd opt for the safer route. :)

A template checklist for new content would have sped up the process.

is exactly what I'm talking about, it seems more and more content is riding that whim.

Then nothing will please you, it would seem. I'm a bit offended that you'd paraphrase my quotes like that if you're not going to offer their full context. You should be grateful that you were offered 2x Enchantment and Runestones all weekend and leave it at that. :)

Sorry If I offended you, I quoted your whole post and requoted what I found was a reflection of my sentiment.

This event is just one of the many as I said in my OP. I'm glad about the event but like so many content it was not refined and was rushed out. I try to offer a suggestion so this happens less and less.
