Suggestions:
* Proper spam filtering. I mean seriously, the same message, the same title sent to hundreds or more people at a time? Probably worth blocking
* Checkbox to disable <l60 mails/pms (separate checkboxes)
* Checkbox to disable non guildies/friends mails/pms
* When you detect a proven bot spam message, feign sending it but actually block receiving it from others. trollface.jpg
* Limit the amount of people you can send tells/mail to in a certain amount of time. Doesn't apply to guildies and friends.
* Allow you to be unable to repeat the same message again within a minute in zone/lfg/trade chat. Mostly because I hate normal people who did it to try to get noticed more as if they're a special snowflake.
* Lock this thread and pretend the issue doesn't exist, make suggestions on what I can do in order for the issue to further get ignored. My money is on this action.
Today I got a lot of tells from PE. but still get them outside.

I for one would very much like being able to block mail from anyone that isn't a friend or guildmate; The same also goes for private messages.

If I were to make a new game, I'd be tempted to keep chat/mail restricted to those who have bought zen so that bots wouldn't find it worth it to keep paying for the privilege and paying a small amount is hardly much to ask for. Not sure if I'd do it for a game already released, especially not if it's not retroactive. Party/guild/friend tells would be exempt so people could still have a decent f2p experience. No reason not to support at least a small amount to a game you intend to play a lot. Though with the way things have turned out, I'd understand people no longer wanting to.
But since we're not allowed to talk about "bad behavior", this thread is going down the drain. Not sure why I even bother with suggesting a solution...

Though it has also been useful at times to search for people or see if they're online without adding them to your friends list. Some members have used it to check in on players of other guilds or say if a player left ours for whatever reason be it bad or good we can see where they've got to. Or we can check if skilled pvpers swap guilds.

Under the social options I just turn everything off. Don't think it actually blocks mail. But it blocks what they use to find you in the first place to send you the mail. More than a little bit of a hassle though, turning it off and on for invites. Have not gotten any direct spam since I started doing this. Use to get a lot.

The amount of spam coming in has really gotten ridiculous. There's easily a new zone, trade, and lfg spam post by a gold seller ever 30 seconds in PE. Outside of PE there's still a lot of gold spam tells. Reporting the spammer doesn't really do anything except put another notch on the ignore list. Spamming in these games isn't new. We really need a *FIX* from the DEV team.
People need to understand one concept here: Spamming is a cat-and-mouse game.
Every time Cryptic comes up with a means to cut down on the spam, the spammers either invent a new URL that isn't filtered yet, or find a new and creative way to butcher their message so that it gets past the filter. Level limits before being able to use chat? Old tactic, the spammers can see that from a mile away and likely either held a bunch of hacked accounts in reserve or spent time leveling a few in advance to get around that limit.
Where there is demand, there will be spammers, because although it is an annoyance to us, the players, to them it is their business and their paycheck. Cryptic can only do so much in an old war where the spammers are as wily as the companies whose games they spam.
There is no easy "dev fix" for this as long as spammers are finding inventive ways to get around filters and level limits.
The players can do their part by reporting said spam and refraining from buying AD/gold/items from third party sites so that those spammers don't see our game as profitable anymore and drift off to the next game.
Anywho, we shouldn't be discussing wrongdoing here, so I'll have to close this.
