The Black Character Selection Screen

So I have this black charactyer selection screen and I was wandering how to fix. Can someone please help me solve this delima?:) I think that it has alot to do with the graphic's setting in the in-game option's menu. I messed around with it the last time I was in-game. I have a weak DELL WindowsXp lap top. Someone please inlighten me?;)

    Yah, technically a thread necro, but this hasn't been fixed...I get a black character selection screen about 2/3 of the time (have to alt-F4 out and restart the program repeatedly until it works.)

    It isn't just the character selection screen...I can load a character by hitting "enter", but I can hear the environment and have no graphics at all.

    I keep getting the black screen of death at the charcter selection screen. Simply will not load. Loads normally to that point.
