Wasn't CW Perma-Freeze fixed?

Whenever my 18K HR (archer spec... no Fox's Cunning) goes 1v1 against a CW, I instantly turn into a solid block of ice until I'm dead.

Wasn't that supposed to have been addressed in a recent patch?

What can I do to have a fighting chance in that situation?

It's probably not perma freeze, but most CWs start off with icy rays which will root you (may look like freeze), and after the CW finishes his rotation, it's likely he will use ray of frost which will follow up with a freeze.

A CW may also alternate the freeze cooldown with Entangling force and/or Steal Time to stun you until you can be frozen... again.

So a good archer HR stands no chance against a good Oppressor CW?

You NEED to be Combat. Archer is nothing but Ranged DPS support. Nobody plays it seriously in PvP though, because CW and even SW is better at it. You're expected to stay alive through an Icy Rays rotation and incoming Freeze/nuking, heal through it with Wild's Medicine, and go kick CW *** afterwards with your awesome RG set and piercing procs.

At the moment, regardless of what some CWs QQ in the forums, BiS HR vs BiS CW is actually a very balanced match up. CW will probably lose without a daily, and HR will probably lose if they take too much Icy Rays rotations.

Hint: cast at the right time, Marauders will "stealth" dodge you through Icy Rays root AND damage. Practice it and learn to do it.

But first, respec Combat, if you want a chance in 1vs1.

Also Freeze has been nerfed indeed. But after you are frozen, a CW will Entangle you probably and nuke you. By the time you recover, the 3 secs of immune to chill will have passed and you gonna be frozen again if you facetank all of it. Use Disruptive and Boar prone to keep CW on their HAMSTER instead of nuking you.

Well seeing as you are not specced for PvP, you should not have a chance agaisnt a CW that is specced for PvP

I like you. But i have to disagree here. A BiS HR will allways kill a BiS CW. If he is skilled. The thing with HRs is that their skillcap is much higher then CWs. CWs are capped on proccs and freeze, they cant get better then that besides dodging disturptive shot and boar charge. But HRs can get much better than CWs. There are HRs who will absolutely annihilate any CW, dont believe me? Just send me a PM i will point you in the right direction.
But against a medicore HR, a CW with a daily has a great chance of winning.

I like you too :) You're welcome to come try the HR I am talking about, she's one of the best in the game. We duel in IWD for fun quite often. Drop by :) Sent you a PM.

I don't want to keep switching to "the one true play style" until balance is changed again, only to switch to "the one NEW true play style". I enjoy the Archer path, and don't want to play Combat. I very much hope Cryptic will eventually make it viable for top-tier PvP. Even with the CW perma-freeze issue, I usually finish 1st or 2nd in the matches I end up in and enjoy abundant double and triple kills. Until Archer gains some survivability against the new perma-freeze rotation, I'll need to be more careful of CW's.

Well i hope the same as you. But the fact is that top PvPers switch their specc all the time because of the constant changes. Even tho some dont like it, it has to be changed to keep up with the others. I do ofc hope that we get more viable builds for top competition, but reviewing the past i doubt that will happen, and cryptic make quite the money on making us switch enchants, specc etc every mod. So i dont see that happening. The best thing you can do is keep up with everyone else if you wanna be competitive

There is already stat called control resist only reason you are frozen like that is that you prefer to upgrade your damage, ignore it and then whine on forums.

    he is right
roll a halfling DC, they have the highest control resist, and you will really enjoy the PVP fights
