So I haven't found anything about it on the forums yet so I assume posting about it won't help, and it will even make things worse unless it gets some attention quickly. But this is just too frustrating not to mention it.
When someone gets killed he just disconnects before the timer runs out or before we can click on him. I assume the issue is more prevalent with casters because we have to make our way to killed people. Well this is bad. It's denying kills we've made legitimately. It's denying the campaign progression, leaderboard status and feeling of accomplishment. That's griefing plain and simple, because some people tag for pvp and can't deal with a loss. Right now my wizard's killboard is looking a lot worst than it should. At least 30% of the players disconnect after being killed. Yes, i'm talking about you the "y u attack me im just doing quest" crowd. Don't do it. Seriously. This is wrong.
There's an existing fix many games use to prevent such griefing issues, it's adding a timer when you're flagged for combat. Even if you log out your character will stay active on the map for a given number of seconds. I honnestly don't know how simple or hard it would be to implement but griefing in pvp shouldn't be encouraged, because right now it's just ruining the open pvp zones.
It's been completely dead since release unless you "pre-made" an event or something.
This "Open world" PVP is only useful for organizing 1v1's and practices. Something we were able to do in Domination before until they "Fixed" it.
Well there are people, every day. I usually spend 30 mins trying to kill people after doing my own dailies and have an average of 10 kills a day (counting griefers). So your post about the irrelevance of my complaint is irrelevant. There are people playing the open pvp every single day and especially on mondays, like it or not.
I prefer open PVP to domination. its a lot more fun overall, I wish gauntgrym was more like it. I'm assuming the idea they had behind gaunt grym was that each party goes to one point, but instead we just all zerg rush.
This was happening the very first day, was entirely predictable, and more, was predicted.
And there were no attempts to fix such a blatant cheating/griefing issue since the release of module 3? Well I thoight the guys at cryptic were taking griefing issues very seriously. Oh well.
I think they've given up on open world PVP to be honest just like they did with GG when it was first released and people were all complaining about how to improve it (of course back then, PVP and dungeons were more viable to run so they had better options).
I would like to see a 15 second timer wherein your character stays when logging out/alt-f4 in open world pvp
I'm curious. Have you reported this through the actual in game bug report system? If everyone does every time it happens then we might develop a "squeeky wheel" to have it looked at.

Ever since the PvP campaign people are releasing as soon as they die. Before that, most people waited if there were people around that could raise them. No longer. Their egos can't take the dieing, let alone allowing someone else to benefit from it more than they can help. Of course, the excuse they use is "if I release right away, I can go back into battle faster".
I've always released if there's no decent chance of a resurrect from a nearby team-mate, and you DO often get back into combat faster.
Releasing in Domination still credits the kill anyway. It's only the 'execute' achievement you miss out on I think? Does the same not apply in OWPvP?
1) The Leaderboard is tied to Domination matches only, not OPvP. Not even BID. No one is avoiding execution in IWD to protect their spot on the leader board. Or if they are, they're idiots.
2) PvP campaign progression is flawed in so many ways that this issue wouldn't even make the top ten. How about triple kills as a DC? NPC kills in GG? 50 BID matches with the number of bugged instances that occur and no instance jumping? Anything that requires you to be below 50% health for it to count? There are only a very few tasks in the entire campaign that you can actually "work" towards. The rest are simply lucked based.
3) Expecting someone to wait to be executed simply because the developers have put a task in place that benefits the person that killed them is naive. A system like this should never be put in place. If you want a lesson in the "honor" of players, simply go do the lighting jar or rescue slaves quest in Rhone Valley.

Gaunt should be an open world pvp area that opens every 2 hours and allows teams or pugs to join in on killing the NPC giants or the opposing team without the ridiculous run to node horse race!

Some people use the release option and that's fine.
But some others really disconnect. The kill doesn't appear in the campaign progress. Some even manage to disconnect a few HPs before dying. And that sucks. Unfortunately this is extremely common. They take the free black ice rewards with basically zero risks and slower other people's campaign progression deliberately.

Maybe i'm a bit off on my terminology but aren't you technically the greifer? I mean if someone is in PVP to knock out the daily and you kill them with a back is turned no warning manner, kinda makes you the griefer especially if you complain that you don't get to step on them?
As others have said they maybe releasing, price you pay for being sneaky getting kills while people are unaware.

Nope. They flag for an activity which is called player versus player, aka PvP. You accept to be killed and the risk of being killed. If they are unaware well it's only their fault and no one else is to blame.

This. It's almost sad when I don't get attacked while pvp mining.

By all means, don't kill the people who came to a PVP area to quest - pay no attention to the fact that the quests are designed for a PVP area and are calculated into the overall risk involved.
On the logic, don't report people exploiting, as you are griefing them and ruining their fun. Don't kick the guy in the dom match thats just sitting there trying to complete his daily quest....thats just mean also.
