Hello guy's

Alizea Angelo here.

I have this realy hard question , i dunno for sure , so il ask.

Strenght to certain classes means : Damage bonus %

Damage bonus = Extra damage = More damage

So 1 Str = 1 % more damage.

Now we have ARP : Armor Penetration : It ignores resistance.

So if i ignore resistance means i do extra % Damage right ?

Now the question :

If i ignore 1% of resistance , it calculates like Extra 1 % Damage bonus ?

Like 300 ARP =1 % Resistance ignored.

So 300 ARP it's like 1 STR ? (1% damage bonus)

1 % resistance ignored is like 1 % More damage ?( same effect as STR)

So 300 ARP is equivalent of 1 STR ?.

And dont tell me about Diminishing returns..Lets focus on the point that 300 arp gives 1 % ignored Resistance.

So by logic..if i ignore your defense by 1 % ( 1 % ignored resistance) that means i do extra 1 % more damage ( and 1 % more damage it's same as 1 STR (1 % damage bonus.)

In a world where everything is simple and it looks like a yes, that would most certainly seem to be the case. If you believed things are linear, but things are not always linear. For instance, adding 1% more damage to a target with 50% resistance your damage actually doesn't go up much at all. If you do 100 damage, you gain half a point of damage onto the target. However, if the targets resistance goes down 1% to 49%, well you actually gained 1 point of damage.

It's advantageous to actually increase both, but in the world of PvE, there is a fine line when adding more armor penetration is actually a waste of time, since mobs typically have a set amount of resistance, unlike players. Also, take into account, that the lower defense gets, the less advantageous lowering the actual resistance becomes and the difference between damage increase and resistance decrease starts becoming less noticeable. In all, Armor Pen will always have the damage advantage, but there is a point where it is moot and that ffraction fo a point actually is negligible.

    Lets test this:

    Damage: 1000
    Resistance: 20%

    +1% Damage: 1000*1.01*.8 = 808 damage
    +1% Resistance Ignored: 1000*(.8-.01) = 790 damage

So, no, its not the same. There is probably a relation somewhere as to when 1% damage is better or 1% resistance ignored is better, but I don't have it.

Edit: For reference, ~166 power is equivalent to 1% damage when you are level 60.

Wait . . . it's supposed to be resistance ignored. That means it's 19% DR instead of 20%

    1000*(.8+.01) = 810 damage.

Not the same AT ALL. Unless you have greater total resistance ignored (RI%) than your enemy's Damage reduction (DR%), 1% resistance ignored is almost always better than 1% damage. The caveat is of course, if you already have enough RI for that particular enemy then extra won't do anything for you.
