Ranger the worst Class

I have tried the Ranger now till Level 51 and it has been an ongoing struggle. I have a Cleric, Rogue, Mage and Warlock and all of them are great fun to play. I have read up on techniques for Hunter/Ranger, on where to put my points, what armor etc. but it is still not really fun to always hover on the brink of death or death itself. What is a Ranger? Somebody that can do bow and arrow as well as melee - big whopee- but is master of none?

Fox's Cunning - "dodge next oncoming attack"? Why do I want to waste a slot of an Encounter on something that lets me dodge ONE attack and then has a cooldown of over 18 secs?

"Binding Arrow" actually binds once in about 10 or 15 shots if I am lucky! The only shot on the whole list is that is higher than all the max 1 something shots is the Hawk Shot and that one also has a long starting period and mob is on top of you by then but then it has also a long cooldown of over 18 secs.

I know there are a few specialists that are phantastic with this class. But probably also spent a heck of a lot of money on all kinds of expensive upgrades, armor etc. So it is actually more a matter of wealth than of skill?

The melee sucks so badly that i can maybe scarcely scrape through but often not. OK, maybe I suck as a player but have played for more than 30 years, had a great Hunter on Wow and had a great Hunter in SWTOR and other games.

So anyway, now I got that off my chest but I tried and tried and researched a lot. Truly! For anybody who thinks this class is great, maybe try to solo it and maybe try ANY other class in the game and note the difference!

You're trying to solo using only single target powers, it's not gonna end well unless you're well geared. No matter what spec you choose you'll need to be smart with the few AOE powers HR has. For solo content run with thorn ward, rain of arrows and fox shift/boar charge or STS, positioning is important, especially if you're a squishy archer spec.

PVP combat HR spec is actually a lot of fun to play PVE with (at least for me) because it's pretty tanky and it's DPS is more than ample.

I didnt spend a dime on this HR toon.. yet .. He easily skim through dread ring & sharandar much better than my cleric (ofc the cleric can do them too, but at a much slower pace).

Go ALL with archery tree.. it is the better PvE solo spec. Can dish out tons of damage to adds... It will really be a MASTER of ranged class.

On the archery feat alone, i go with :
    1st 5,
    2nd 5,
    3rd 5 & 5
    4th 5 & 5
    Capstone 1

To make your life less miserable as an HR, go with the cheap 2g cleric companion (or angel / fawn) if you havent already... and dont forget to have the latest blue weapon of your level. Strong offense is ranged HR strongest defense, better to dish them out before they reach you. But even if they did, rain of arrow pretty much do the work of close combat solo PvE.. Just gotta tank a bit for them to take full damage.

Doing something terribly wrong, HR is one of the easiest classes to solo with.

You are playing the class very wrong...you say melee sucks ? melee is the way to being almost unkillable in pvp and still very good in pve.

I have a 12k gs hr, melee path and I can beat any other class apart from cw. I can even beat up to 19k gwf players quite easily with all the dodge an dot dmg.

Main problem I see with hr players is they always stack so much crit, you don't need a lot at all...

Go for around 30k hp to start with and 1.5k regen for your tankiness then get 1.5k defense and deflect and stack arm pen and power for dmg. Learn a good feat path and how to use skill rotations and you will be doing great.

Hr isn't that wanted in pve that much but doesn't mean they arent good, they just don't compare with cw dps or control. But hr is second best pvp class.

You are definitly doing something wrong , HR is the first class i played in this game and with not much experience i never had a problem except maybe in IWD when i came back after a long break and a lot things changed then after couple days i was clearing mobs there quiet easily , you should post your feats/encounters/dailies and at-wills as well as how you play we might be able to help you.

Or perhaps people have played it past the starter zones that you've supposedly completed four times before and are still having problems with even though one of those characters was the Divine Cleric.

    So, basically, no.

    Bad troll.

Hilarious and with a more than a little truth in it given that HR is one of if not THE best PvP class, and is decent in PvE.

Combat HR, maybe. I'm levelling one now and in the 50's I'm pretty much immortal in PvE while mainly just holding down one mouse button.

However, try facerolling an Archer HR and you'll get smeared in both PvP and PvE.

I levelled 4 toons so far: HR, TR, DC and SW and HR was by far the easiest. Just ran Epic LoL today and my Archer worked pretty fine
    Le-Shan: HR level 80 (main)
Born of Black Wind: SW Level 80

With a few more like minded individuals, this game could actually begin to be fun again. Well played Sir, well played ;)
