I finally decided to play this part of the game, after being here since closed beta.
I want to start practicing with something small, player spawns into a small room, encounters npc, fights mobs, leaves etc. How the heck tdo I make a small room with these large HAMSTER maps? If i go to map tab---> select indoor, kit filter any I see about 31 maps all way to large to use as a "one small room".
Or better, how do i use a custom map to edit and make a room? all I get is a grey screen when I use it. Apologies, this tool is daunting.
If any vet is bored enoughy and wants to walk me through making a custom map with an npc and some monsters just to help me get started send me a pm, I coudl either review your missions for you as a ty or if its too time consuming pay you gold or something. This tool is too much for me to handle(Giggidy).
I am just now getting used to creating custom maps, but I can try to help. When you create a map there is an option for custom map. Once it is placed type in room builder and it shall give you options to build rooms and halls.
1. Use an indoor pre-made map. Most of the rooms are already filled with details. These are the maps you see in the map options when you start creating one. This is also the most restricted in terms of creativity.
2. Use an custom indoor map. You simply choose the blank map in the map options. You start with no rooms. You then place rooms and connect them. Then, you add in details (or don't. It's up to you) to make a custom indoor map.
3. Use an outdoor pre-made map. This is just open area with whatever details (hills, trees, farm etc). Then, you add in details (or don't. It's up to you) to make a custom outdoor map.
4. Use a blank outdoor map. This is basically the flat plain map. You then put details in to create buildings and structures of your own. This is where you have limitless freedom to create whatever you want but remember you are creating every single detail from scratch so this will take a lot of time but it's worth it.
Some things that you might need to know:
(a) There is a 3D editor. To access it, after putting a map, click play map and then once in, click ALT to activate the mouse and click "Edit Mode". You can now place details and NPCs and stuff in 3D mode. Press "Q" to activate the axis for positioning, "E" to activate the wheels for rotation and "R" to manually move a selected object.
(b) There is a limit to details and NPCs and other objects. They are all by per map basis. Make sure you don't exceed it in 3D mode because the game's not gonna tell you. The last time I exceeded, I had to manually remove 500 or so trees which I have placed and it's not a pleasant experience.
If you want a single room quickly, the fastest way is to select the empty map (grey icon with some gears) from the "indoor" maps, and then select the "Rooms" tab. Drag-and-drop one you like.
