I have an NPC set up to engage in dialogue, then disappear and in its place appears a Guard NPC and he follows the player. However when I place the Guard Encounter into the map in Layout/Detail mode, it places 3 guards and I can't delete 2 of them so that the only one standing is the one who follows the player.
How can I remove the other 2 guards? I feel like I'm missing something extremely simple.
Yeah the guard encounters don't include any solos, so if you want a companion on the adventure, then using a fighter in the the "adventurer" group (make sure he is labelled "FRIENDLY" in the description) is pretty much your only option for that kind of character. You can still make him look like a guard by changing his costume though.
There are sneaky and complex ways of achieving what you want, though you'll have to decide if it's worth the effort (and if it creates other problems with your maps).
You can spawn the encounter, keep 1 of the guards where you want him, and spawn the other 2 guards in some hidden room that the player never sees. Then put something in that room that causes the other 2 guards to die, leaving just the 1 survivor where you player sees him.
