Icewind Dale Epic encounters are broken

Well, I spent the last few months running 8 characters through IWD.

It was one of the best modules ever.

Then we heard about the new tyranny of dragons and I thought, cool I should finish here just in time.

Of 8 characters, 100's of epic encounters, 1 CHARACTER got the Main Hand and the Bracers. He's moved on.

/start rant

The other 7 are now stuck in an area that no longer works because there are no people left.

6 hours today, 1 epic encounter, in order to get there I had to go cancel my ab contract and get a TT and run back, well that got me 25 ice.

ONE EPIC ENCOUNTER IN 6 HOURS. and since only ones offering invites were tt, I had to switch sides. I looked around while I was there, and saw 8 or 9 TT, and 2 AB. A month ago that would have been 50 players.

Please Please fix this. All 7 characters still there are 100% complete, have at least 30 -50 Epic encounters under their belts, have all finished Kessel's successfully.

So now I sit and wait ... for a chance that an epic encounter will appear.... for a chance that I will be able to get to one of the few popping in time to have a chance to win.... Do well enough to win 180 ice.... and then I pray for bracers...

and get nothing

And so since these players are all stalled in IWD it might be time to go find a new game.

/end rant

Epic encounters are no longer spawning with any regularity. A schedule would at least give us a chance to be there and try.

Spawn a few more if we only have a slim chance anyways.

or perhaps hang a set for each player on the back wall of Kessels retreat for those that have completed everything and don't consider a game sitting and waiting and waiting for a chance to spin the roulette wheel to get a set of bracers.

anything is better than what is happening.

cheers

I agree with this. There is an issue. I have been farming these since day 1 still no luck even on one character.

Last night no one was around, which it is usually a spam fest. I had to solo prospectors for the first 4 prisoners dying often and had to wait for others before we cold free the fifth one.

Even when we do get enough folks I consistently get the "180" BI Reward but I am given some pots and a blue crafting piece. Once I did get a purple Elk main hand but it was a GWF weapon with me being a CW. I could not even give it to a friend for it was BOP.

Make it so I have to pay huge amount of BI or something or complete every HE at least once with great success to qualify to purchase.

the epic HE's are broken,I have more than 3 mounths trying to get my mainhand
and I have waited for more than 2 hours for beholder to spawn ,nothing . it didn't
looks like the timing aint consistent you can wait for hours and nothing ,no beholder.if they let kessel drop the mainhand it will be nice, you will have more chance to get it
I move on,it aint worth my time you only get junk from epic's

It's surely interesting how the system performs when the majority of layers is moving on to the next campaign. After all the grinding was less painful because you would get invites for the Epic Encounters. With a dwindling population either the spawn rate or the drop rate has to be raised, probably better both. Or make the drops BoE like in ToD or at least BtA. And HE timers...

IWD is the worst module of the four and, it needs a change.

This is a really good idea ,if they made the black ice gloves and main hand BoE like the ToD boots and gloves it would give capped players a good reason to venture back to do a few IWD HE's every day and it would make things a lot more easier for the guys who despite running hundreds of HE's never got their gloves and weapon drops , they definitely need to do something to lure people back who finished the entire campaign.

I will put a positive spin to this. I had a lot of fun with a group of 2 others in the pvp area in the dwarven zone in IWD just mining black ice. There was noone of the opposite faction to be found. We did this for about 30 mins or so.

yeah its getting more than a pathological kind of goofy

Ive written those items off to the pt of non existence, and if you think about it, they didnt exist at one pt and we still enjoyed the game.

Its just that the Devs went to the trouble of creating these items ...most of them sit while gobs of dust build.

They might have missed the chapter where it teaches that there isnt anything that motivates better than success and pos reward...failure... erodes

I just marked IWD off as a bad memory and doubt I'll be going back there. I've done many 'purple' events and only got bracers (twice on the same character). I'm not saying each piece should be a guaranteed drop but come on! As it is it's setup for the "rich to get richer" since the well geared characters are usually the ones who get Great Success and a chance at the drop while those filthy casuals end up getting black ice (coal in their stocking?). A nice system would have been able to buy items after having completed X (25?) number of heroic encounters.

Have to agree. I am tired of running around, finishing my quests and maybe if I am lucky, all I see is that damned Mother Lode HE. Wth happened to the HE's (not the little ones)?

Hmmm, reading this makes me worry about the mod4 HE. I have three main characters but am currently only doing the quests with one, if everyone has moved on in mod 4 like in mod 3 then trying to do the dragon campaign might become a big problem. The other day I encountered a dragon with just one more player taking part, its not easy and the time does run out (I left because it was half the time and it had more than 70% hp). So while I guess most players would continue to farm the Rothe valley dragon for belts, what happens if you have to do the earlier dragons and there is no one there to help ? Also in Icewind you can always do the lesser encounters, in mod 4 you have to do the dragons for the daily to complete. Probably wise to do the campaign with all three now, just in case.

    +1 to the rant

I;ve skipped IWD! Now i;ve noticed that if i want to stand a chance in pvp i need the BI gear and as it seems i need to solo farm it! Would be nice if some tokens would be introduced so once a certain number of HE are done we could buy them. Why is a semi pve gear the pvp choice in the first place?!

It will probably not be quite as bad, because the ToD campaign starts at a lower level, so everyone leveling a character will probably go through it at that time (instead of 90% being lvl 60s, with the odd leveling SW thrown in). So, in ToD, there should be players around.

Besides, the rewards (items and Boons) in ToD are much, much better than in IWD, and ToD also has the enchant you can continue to grind for (like Sharandar has), long after you have finished the campaign, so yea...I expect people will not abandon ToD.

I expect IWD to become a wasteland, though.
    Hoping for improvements...

This is one of the biggest flaws in HEs and so in MODs based on HEs in general.
If BI gear would drop from Kessel there would be no problem also if there would be 2 types of the same items drop, BoP and BoE with BoP having greater chance, problem with HEs would simply disappear (+ ability to change instances in IWD would help with grouping for HEs and as we all know anti-farm instance block on IWD was total failure)

I don't know if it's just fewer folks on so there are less instances for the encounters to pop, but I was only able to get into 1 beholder and 1 prospector attack yesterday and I was on nearly the whole day. Since Tyranny of Dragons has come out, I plead with the devs to either put in a timer or increase the spawn or both :)

Oh, and I also agree that adding the drops to Kessel would be a great alternative.

Last night i sat there for hours on my TR, finally after many hours beholder spawned, only four players showed up, and we spammed chat to invite players from other instances, and only two players joined... we were unable to defeat beholder in time.

Then I sat there for hours on my HR in Icewind Pass, and REMO never spawned. I think I did about six Mother Lodes before finally logging off in complete frustration.

It would be cool to see epic HE timers like those in ToD so people would walk in, see that Beholder is gonna show up in 20 minutes and wait because right now it's a pain to farm them.

The mainhand and bracers also drop from the Major HE's, not just from the Epic HE's.

The drop rate is so abysmal on these that while your statement is technically true, the practicality of it is not.

well my brother got his bracers while doing bear rider roundup so they do infact drop.

And I had a friend that simply ran through Prospectors while a group was taking it down and got his bracers five minutes later when he was off doing something else and the encounter completed. Knowing someone that won the lottery does not mean the chances are any less minuscule.

I used to duo farm medium HEs for great successes and have never gotten bracers or MH. Bunch of epic crafting stuff, but never BI gear.

Well, it was a total of 10 hours yesterday in Icewind Pass. 1 Prospectors, 1 Remo and well, that was it.

Its broken and needs to be fixed so that we can move on.

    cheers

I have only gotten mainhands and bracers from Major HE's, nothing from Epic HE's. And, practically speaking, since Major HE's occur more frequently, your odds are better overall since you have more attempts at the Major HE's than at the Epic HE's.
