Can someone explain to me how this ability works? I assume how its worded is, that if I hit a target with a curse for say, 1000 damage, then that amount will hit nearby targets for same amount or is it less?

From my experience, its about the same amount...but not exact. Last time I used it, it was 1200 without a crit. It hit everything around for 1000-1300 it seemed. So the damage on each mob is probably calculated separately. It's a fun spell, though trying to target the "one" with the curse isn't fun.
The Primary target will take full dmg on a if uncursed the surounding mobs will take reduced dmg from the AoE effect. when used on a cursed target the cursed target will take 35% more dmg and the surrounding mobs will take the normal full dmg from the attack

I have, which is why im posting here, im cursing, hitting cursed target, and mobs are taking nearly third of the damage primary target takes.
I've always obliterated small minion packs with firebolt and curse, so you might be hitting another mob or you waited long enough for your curse to wear off.

Tab, then hit target, ive bug reported, probably try and record it.

There really is a bug regarding Curse and Fiery Bolt.
Say we have 4 mobs. We can at most curse 3. So we do that and cast Fiery Bolt on one of the cursed mobs. BUT if the camera has not focused one of the cursed mobs, but the 4th uncursed mob, the calculation is like not hitting a cursed target at all - NO damage bonus; neither the 35% for the main target, nor the full damage for the surrounding mobs.
Really annoying bug, because even if you target lock a mob, the camera can still focus an uncursed mob, so we get no damage bonus.
I've definitely seen some inconsistency on how much damage the surrounding enemies get. Sometimes it'll get max damage, sometimes they'll actually get as much damage as the main target, and then sometimes they'll get the fraction of damage.

Figures. The targeting has been wonky ever since IWD launched. Since then i have noticed getting health bars etc for friendlies between me and my target, or that if said target happens to pass behind another mob i will often find myself switching target to the mob nearest to me. This even tho i am holding down the at-will the whole time.
As Voltomey explained when it hits a cursed target, the cursed target gets 135% dmg and the surrounding mobs get the original 100% . In my experience this is reflected in the numbers I am seeing as this is a staple part of my aoe/daily grind setup.
It would also appear a crit on the primary target triggers crits on the surrounding mobs.
Wouldn't the cursed target get more than 135%? You get the bonus from the curse too. That seems like it might explain some of the discrepancy people are seeing.

You must curse target A. Then use bolt on target A. All mobs will take full damage.

I've noticed this as well. Lots of Orange floating around.
