Tyrannical Lockbox is Awesome

I have way too much Zen Points sitting around and nothing to buy in the Zen Market (I did the cash deal on all the newest stuff offered) - so I figured what the hell - bought five ten-packs of keys and 50 lockboxes off the AH at a an average os 80AD each. My reasoning? I don't have quite enough T-Bars to get anything decent so why not top those off?

I know better than to hope for a Mount or Companion, so my hopes weren't really that high. However, the stuff I *did* get is awesome - I kept everything, except auctioning off about half the Professions Special packs I got and in hindsight I should have kept them, too.

T Bar "jackpot" possibility is back, so I was able to add a lot of those. What's more special to me is all the other stuff. I got a few Dragon Eggs in the Professions Special pack (why I wish I'd kept the others, but they sold to fast!) Also a HAMSTER-ton of rank six and seven enchantments - some for Companions and Some for gear and a LOT of awesome refining stuff, including Blue Stability Stones and Lesser Marks of Stability, Union Stone and Resonance Stone (blues), A greater Mark of Potency and nine (regular) Marks of Potency and whatnot.

I'm not a min-maxer and haven't done a lot of refining so I'm not really sure if I should keep these or sell them. 36 Tomes of Companion Experience, which I think I'll keep. Best part is of those packs I did sell, I now have enough Astral Diamonds to just buy a Drake Mount (for me Dragonborn Warlock LOL) - but dunno if I really want one or not (6.2 Million AD is still a bit steep, but if any drop to 5.5 or less I'll snag it).

Until now my favorite was the Nightmare Lockbox, but I really like this one.

So I'm curious: which lockbox is your favorite and why?

Rusted Iron is still my favorite. I liked the mount, companion and Leadership Special Pack - all around goodness.

This new one is nice too, though.

The Black Ice one (forget the name, exactly). My luck on that one (and that one ALONE) was just amazing. Usually I get less stuff of less value from one Lockbox than I would have gotten from a decent Profession Node in a LvL 60 area. The Black Ice Pack? Purple Augment, Purple Enchants, it seemed I got an Epic reward every third Box. I kept the best stuff and sold the rest at a huge profit (which I proceeded to loose in its entirety with the next box (had the Tensers' Disk), which never gave me anything better than a handful of green enchants and one single Tradebar Jackpot. I'm not joking. Over 100 Keys. Just gone.

Hate how they nerfed the epic drop rate on these. Used to be if you spend $100 or so you would expect 2-3 epics at least. Spent more than that on last pack and didn't get a single epic thing.

    No more lockboxes for me!

The 'epic drop' (the top reward) is 0.5% chance. All of Cryptic's games use this for the most part.

Which means you'll get 1 out of 200 lockboxes open on average.

Yea, I opened twenty and didn't get anything special. I'm now sitting on 30 companion training boosters.

Well, you could always use them on the "New" Apprentice Healer Companion (Common and only 2gp each)

Except it's more akin to rolling a d 200. So there's a chance that you could open 400 of them and never roll that 1 of 200. **** rng.

I find with the dragon scales, this box upsets me. I can USUALLY turn the lockboxes into either a break even, or profit with enchants and artificer packs. But with this one, if you get scales, you just lost 65000 AD. Its bind to character trade bars all over again.

Check the AH price on Pseudodragon. You are likely making more than before, and that is with the Pseudodragon at a relatively low current price. I believe I bought mine for 4.2 million.

I think the current lockbox is really really good, I would still take the rusted one due to the leadership pack giving you the best return

So far the only lockbox that I've gotten something awesome from is the rusted iron one. I got me Driki, the Rust Monster. I use him everywhere.

Wait... so the Scales Vendor items are all BoE? I didn't mention it but I got a HAMSTER-tonne of Scales currency also. But I never really thought about spending them.

Things that make you go 'Hrrmmmmm".

Someone doesn't like stacks and stacks of money. Pseudodragon, and Red Dragon Ioun stone should be sellable on the AH due to their BoE status.

I really don't like the new lock box at all so far I've spent a bit and unlike the other lock boxes I'm not even remotely close to "breaking even" on the 'investment' (and yes I know it's a zero sum game aka gambling but with the previous Lock boxes I could flip the contents and get more keys then I can with the new one for sure). Rusted still the best then Nightmare IMO
