IMHO Zen store items should have a maximum selling price on the auction house equivalent to the Zen price times 500 AD. Thus it wouldn't be as easy to make profit converting AD to Zen and selling Zen store items on the AH (and repeating this cycle forever).
There'd be a break even point of 450 AD/Zen above which directly converting Zen will always give you the most AD for your ZEN. Depending on the actual AH selling prices the rate may be even lower.
This might help to bring down the backlog. And I think it is a better idea than to make all Zen store items BoP.
I understand the OP point, but disagree with it because it would be an artificial limit. However, if such a limit were going to be imposed then the 'fixed' exchange rate should be 350:1 or perhaps 400:1 - otherwise the limit wouldn't work because it would do nothing to allow the ZAX to fluctuate, much less stabilize (though the current situation could be considered "stabilized".)
The best "fix", if you're going to allow such a limit on Zen Market items, is to prevent them from being sold in the Auction House entirely and force people to use the ZAX to get any of it. But then the situation would be pretty much the same as it is now.
I get what you're saying and agree that capping the ZEN price makes little sense if you allow people to bypass it through the AH, but you can't prevent it anyway.
What about Blueprints that turn into Doohickeys? Keys that turn into lockbox contents? Wards that turn into Enchantments? You can't set fixed values for these items.
And let's not forget we're talking about a heavily exploit-affected market so adjusting to that is not simple and might not even be wise. It's like balancing around a bugged class.
Mhhh... I haven't though about items from lock boxes. I'm not sure if that is a problem though. There's still the hurdle of the RNG. If you're lucky you should be allowed to sell your stuff for whatever price people are willing to pay.
In the end there seems to be no way of breaking the AD-Zen-AD-cycle... except of making everything bound. And that is a bad idea because it punishes legit players. E.g. they wouldn't be able to buy something as a present anymore.
Someone suggested to introduce two kind of Zen: Zen bought with real money and Zen bought with AD. Real-money-Zen works like Zen currently does. All items bought with Zen-AD will be bound to the account. Still won't fix the issue with lock boxes. But it will break the simple AD-Zen-AD-cycle.
They buy it with Zen. They trade their AD for Zen and buy it themselves.
And hence it helping with the backlog like the OP hoped for is completely negated and there's no difference expect that now people are forced to use the exchange and wait rather getting it instantly. I honestly don't get why people even pay over the odds, it wouldn't be an issue.
If they are able to track down all the exploited AD from months and months ago, the backlog would be reduced much more since there should be billions and billions less AD floating around
I hate lock boxes and I hate gambling I know what I want and should if I have the money and willing to spend it be able to buy it with Zen. Not taking a chance to maybe get the mount or companion I want from a box, but if they must do the box thing then that's fine but put a version on the ZEN market after the lock box has ran its course. This way we who don't like to gamble or just don't want too can if we must have it buy what we want with ZEN. I came to this game to play and have characters I want to play, took me for ever to find and axe for my dwarf and I spent may AD to change his weapon with each up grade and when I could not I just used the axe I had till I had AD to change it. This is my only vice and I can spend what ever amount I want on the game so the exchange does not matter to me, what does is getting a look or a style of mount or what ever to play the character I want. And right now this is not the case, if I have the money I should be able to get it if I can not in game. This is why I do not play most games MMO's but seeing as these guys were from CoH I was hoping for there values to rub off on this but I can see I was mistaken.

If you hate the ritual of opening lockboxes, then stay away from them and just buy the items you want from the auction house. That's the beauty of it. A lot of people love to gamble because of the thrill and risk and now-mentality (even though they lose most of the time). That's the reason why people buy lottery tickets, why people go to casinos even though the house always wins in the end. Simple stuff really.
If you stop items from being sold on the AH, you just force the AH goers to go to the zax. And it stays backlogged. However if you cap the price, you still allow people sell some items. Say someone buys a companion, but would rather sell the bonding runestone. Figure out a zax exchange rate for that and put a limit on the AH.
Right now whales are using this method to use their millions to make more millions.
The matter of coal wards being less available is a separate issue that needs it's own discussion. Coal wards are only available from the Zen market in two ways, lockbox trading bars and buying straight out. They need to start dropping form t2's and t2.5.
IF YOU CAN ****ING BUY THEM IN THE ZEN STORE WHY IN HELL SHOULD YOU BE ABLE TO SELL THEM BACK IN THE AH?
that's the question cryptic is dodging to answer.
What's wrong with selling for high prices if there is a demand for it?
Don't you sell your items from drops for appropriate market values?
Why are HR items more expensive than GF items? Why does the HR have to pay more for a weapon than a GF?
(A rhetorical question, I know the answer)
Life is not fair!
Stop crying and join the fun! Buy ZEN and prosper!
All Zen Items are now BoA or have a 500:1 AH Price Limit.
People buying Zen items refuse to sell on AH because of the 10% surcharge.
People waiting to convert AD to ZEN still have to wait two weeks.
People wanting Zen market stuff get pissed-off.
Making a bad situation worse.
As it is right now:
Which is more important to you?:
Waiting two week to convert AD to Zen to buy that something.
Or pay more for that something with your AD to get it NOW.
Some people choose the former and others the latter.

All Zen Items are now BoA or have a 500:1 AH Price Limit.

I would just say in /trade "I trade my 1 coal ward for your 3 GPF (which you can buy from AH for 300k a piece)"
Or whatever item I would deem appropriate for my coal ward at that time.
It would not change much. We changed our economy from keys, to coal wards, to enchants ... only way to stop this is to disallow trading of everything.

You'd find it much more tiring to sell a coal ward on trade channel then on the AH. Instead of it sitting there, waiting for a buyer, you need to be logged on at the same time as a potential buyer, offering a better deal, and actively selling in trade.
wow talk about missing the point entirely, let me elaborate further. 1) Gambling should be something done for fun fo those who like it not forced upon to get something or the only way to obtain it. 2) lock boxes have items that only drop from them and them alone and those on the AH are so over priced its insane, I will not go into the economics of the game right now. 3) putting said Items up for sale on the zen store would have an impact in two ways, one it would put a stop to the over pricing of the items on the AH because now you can just go and buy it with zen, and two would let those who want them pay for them direct and by pass the gambling of the lock boxes. Would this keep people from the lock boxes not really because you can't stop a gambler from gambling and some people like the thrill of it so they can have it. Now I understand they are rare drops that's OK then put a rear price on them as most would have a definite then a maybe any day. 2mil for a little floating head that insults and is a good tank after a fashion, as the drop rate is so bad for somethings has caused getting them hard for some and others like my self refuse to gamble. Now people will say but if anyone could buy them then there not rare any more and the lock boxes become less desirable. Not so as a key is only like 120 zen or so which is a good bargain for a chance to win one of the items that's worth far more than that. If priced right the item in the zen store would appease those who do not believe in gambling or want to gamble and still let those who do it. As most of the Items in the box can be bought for zen but just a few can not is kind of annoying. I have looked there are other companions that I will be getting for my character and this is the only one I will have an issue getting because of the lock box. I would like to have one or two of the mounts as well and this would give opportunity for those of us to get those they would like and want. After all its mostly a cosmetic thing any way as most companions are as good as another, all provide different benefits to having. But for me its a look that I am going for not just the abilities, so doing this would give those who have the money to spend spend it and get what they want and get back to playing the game and having fun which most are here to do. And those who are here to play the market and gamble can do their thing as well, even though I don't understand it to me its like going to a pizza restaurant and ordering a cheese burger, just go to a burger joint. But what ever let them have there thing as long as I can get what I want and have fun playing the game which is what we are all here to do in there own way.
