Now does this mean that this new race will be the most powerful stats wise??

" The Dragonborn is the only race that allows players to add +2 to any two stat categories."

depends what class you are / what kind of build your looking for, but yea it has the potential to be a top contender

There is a small power creep, yes. Not because of how high the stats go, but how flexible they are. And it shouldn't really surprise anyone considering Cryptics business model and the price tag of Dragonborn.

If you're worried about min maxing, then you can choose another race depending on the +2 to two stats that you want. Except for maybe +2 str and +2 wisdom/intelligence/charisma. But I don't see that really mattering.

I thought it was the other racial bonuses that made Dragonborn so good, not (just) the +2 to the most useful ability scores?

Dragonborn look solid, because of their versatile stat choices they will be a good choice for any class and sometimes they'll be the best choice. I don't think they'll always be the best choice though because there are other races with abilities on par with the Dragonborn, namely the Tiefling and Half-Orc, so any class that those races fit into perfectly stat wise they will about as good as a Dragonborn for, possibly even better, depending on how the Dragonborn DPS proc works out.

They'll always be a good choice. Human, but better stat-wise (and arguably just better).

The best? As others above me have said, depends.

Of course they need to have a good point for its price tag, aesthetically they look like a mutation of a lizard and a bipedal Eel.

One thing is for sure: it completely explains the Character Head model change (the "new looks" of player characters) as they apparently replaced the heads for higher-resolution models: So they could make the Dragonborn heads (there is NO WAY they could have done it with the old models).

Though these Dragonborn characters have been in development for who knows how many months, it would appear that when they updated the character models is when they began the artwork for these things. The bodies are relatively based off existing models (currently, the female appears to be based off the Half-Orc Female body and the male seems a taller, beefier Dwarf or possibly Half-Orc Male - but very top-heavy).

As for the stats, I have to admit they are surely the best option in game (but I really don't think the stats weigh that much on your overall build) - only min-maxers will really notice any difference and genuinely care about it, most players won;t care THAT much.
