Average Duration of Quest

I made a foundry quest for the Cult of the Dragon competition but to be legible it needs to be 15 mins or longer. I have timed my quest and it is over 15 mins however the average duration is 7 mins.

Does anyone know how Neverwinter works out the average duration of a quest and / or how I can get my quest to above 15 mins without adding features to my map?

I think the timer starts at the First true Foundry Map and ends when you grab the chest.

If it is really over 15 minutes and your beta tests were shorter because you had to add more content - just add up how many plays you have - work out 15 minutes + (eg. 3 plays ave 7 min = 24 minutes short) = 15+24=39 minutes.

Basically just stay in your foundry for 39 minutes and it should fix up - Id go a few more for any calculation errors maybe 5 minutes more and it should come into line with 15 minutes.

If the rest of the plays are over 15 minutes - it will be all AOK!

I'll try that. Any idea why it says 7 minutes though? I played through it as quickly as possible and I did it in 16 minutes.
Edit: The tests that I did before it was finished were about 10 minutes minimum.

Another thing that happens.. is a group will decide to speed run for dailies.. and bam, your foundry is no longer eligible. It can be hard to combat this, because in order to protect yourself from that, you might end up making it too needlessly long for those who don't speed run it.

Occasionally, I have to go camp in my favorite foundries for dailies.. just to make them eligible again.. I just go in and then go read something or watch something on netflix. And pop back in to keep idle timer at bay. Some guys have timers in their maps. I don't have a clue how they do it, but if I were making quest and wanted to ensure it stayed eligible for dailies, I'd have an NPC who activated 15 minutes in, that you had to talk to in order to complete. After 15 minutes of valid questing, he should be there waiting for the party, and if they get there early, well.. leave some chips and dip out for them.

Edit- Oops.. I just realized that everything I said is probably irrelevant.. By the time I finished reading the thread I lost focus that this was about a competition quest. Sorry!

Actually that was quite helpful. I'm going to try and look for a way to guarantee that someone spends at least 15 minutes on my map.

I've not authored anything, but from things I've seen.. don't underestimate indoors (no mount) travel, and doors as time builders (being careful, you don't want to cause un-necessary annoyance.) One that I used to play a lot had long halls with some mobs, and the author even put in a note apologizing that he had to add them as speed bumps.. but he did so with a little humor, which was cool.

I added a new area to my quest. It has a few encounters but it is mainly going to be used as a speed bump and to give more detail on the lore behind the current quest. This will hopefully increase the duration enough to go over 15 minutes.

A good way to check that it's approx 15 minutes is to do a run through in the foundry with a clock or stopwatch on standby. Run through the quest taking the most direct route to the objective as possible and use the kill command to take out any mobs in your way. That's a decent way to approximate how long it can take someone to speed run the quest as well as people who just click through dialogue, have high level mounts and are good at combat.

As for getting the game to recognize the average duration, the easiest way is to get more playthroughs as the timing can be a bit off with only a small number of plays.
