how exactly does the Regeneration stat work?

are you getting healed anytime you're in combat by it?

are you getting healed by your max hp?

by hp lost?

anyone got good official info on this stat?

does it work even if you're in combat? or getting hit / hitting someone?

also, it seems to be unrelated to "health regeneration" under defensive stats

    Health Regeneration ticks occur approximately every 3.0 or 3.1 seconds. The size of a tick depends on the character's maximum hit points, current hit points, and health regeneration percentage.

    tick = min (maxHP - curHP , maxHP / 2) * regenP

    Source

    It works always, as far as I know.

    The percent given by the stat is the percent of missing hit points that you heal every tick, both in and out of combat. If you are missing 10,000 hit points and have a 5% regen you will heal 500 hit points on the next tick.

    Regen caps once you are missing 50% of your health, meaning the most you can regen is 1/2 of the listed regen % of your total health (if the above character had 20,000 max hit points, then 500 is the max tick he could get from having 5% regen). So, while regen is based on your missing hit points, max hit points still help increase your max regen tick.

    Regen is an extremely useful stat to have at least some points in, providing constant healing and reducing the need to use pots, lifesteal, or other abilities. For damage heavy classes lifesteal heals more overall health, but since regen provides health regen at all times it is suggested any level 60 still have at least a couple hundred points of regen.

    Regen isn't the best during combat, effects are too fast while you're taking damage.

    Using healing pots are expensive, Portable Altars are slower than a campfire. But are found as loot which is good.

    Regen pots are too found as loot, Myself find more of these than most anything else.

    Most Regen pots at about 50% or above damage will heal you back to 100%. They do so in a manner that starts high and slowly decreases.

    I use to sell all my Regen pots, not anymore for a fast HP boost it's what I use.
