Account Security, Authenticators

Perfect World needs to add an authenticator to this game whether it be a key phob or through smart phones similar to what World of Warcraft has. The reason why, it's too easy for hackers to hack an account. Even if you use strong passwords you information can be stolen with a key logger. The email system is good, but what if your email and password are both compromised? Then the hacker can log into your email and authenticate. If you had an authenticator that you had to turn on to get the number, the hacker wouldn't be able to get it because its at your house. This would drastically lower account hacking and install confidence in the community that Perfect World is there to support them. If the person whose account is hacked is an officer, then the hacker can also empty the guild bank. Please implement this right away. If you agree with this post, please say so, so that the developers can see how strong the community supports this idea.

Wow with such a fair and unbiased poll. It will be clear to see what the players REALLY want.

    BTW, its Fob.

I chose option 2 but the only problem is because I don't visit dodgy sites and download HAMSTER and because I regularly scan my computer and change my passwords and use basic common sense to prevent my account being compromised I am always left dissapointed :<

You realize that even sites like ESPN have been hacked in the past and that hackers can inject maleware into those sites, so its possible to have a keylogger on your computer. A guildmate who practices good computer practices just had his account hacked and compromised.

It was a simple, Yes or No vote. The second choice was sarcasm. Get a sense of humor. Obviously, no one like their account or computer hacked.

Just travel to Rothe valley and stand at the campfire for a few minutes. 90% of the characters in that zone (aswell as mount hotenow) are bots. One can easily notice it, because they all use the same scripted path (They're probably too dumb to script a new path). I myself downloaded it on an internet cafe PC just to check out whats inside of the zip files and guess what, the software itself comes along with a nice keylogger (who would have thought that!?). All these "hacked" account posts lately make me believe that lots of people are actually falling for this obvious "scam" (technically this isn't a scam since these people are trying to cheat, after all). Just because this other ugly MMO is allowing their customers to use bots, it doesn't mean that NW does aswell. So if these lovely people insist on cheating, let them face the consequences, for doing so.

If it was so simple, why not label it as such, and avoid the poor attempt at a joke. Humor or not these type of polls just end up cluttering the lower depths.

I have been on the net since before it was the net. I have never been hacked UNTIL neverwinter. Say what you want but something is amiss here. NO ONE knows my pass. My computer never leaves my home NOT once for any reason. I log in on a secure connection. My puter is protected with top of the line anti everything, no viruses, keyloggers etc ever been on it. never been to any 3rd party sites AND yes I felt the same way you did people that got hacked did it to themselves by doing something stupid THEN I got hacked. PW fixed it but no explanations forthcoming as of yet. An authenticator is a pain in the neck but I think I've changed my mind about it now. I'm not sure what aunthenticator you mentioned that was already there

And I"m pretty sure they'd do a rollback for those few accounts affected.

Then he obviously didn't. If I got a Pound for each time a user/client says he didn't do anything to cause his problems, even after proving he was wrong, I'd never have to work again in my life. Without a keylogger active when he both accessed his email AND the game (assuming he has different passwords for both), the only way for that to happen is to have dealings with fake websites/goldsellers. Neither of which are good computer practice. On top of that, he did not have a decent virus-scanner and firewall notifying him of whatever he was infected with.

Nor is it of any concern to a game publisher. Be lucky they are often willing to restore your account, despite ToS saying you're the one responsible for it. They don't have to do that. Internet security is your concern. And yours only.

Most people I've heard that have got hacked only got a partial rollback if that. as for your 2nd quoted paragraph, I too have only been hacked with neverwinter on my mule storage account. Never used a goldseller site or "click for free ad, totally legit!!!11". They took some events stuff and ad together worth 1.5m ad. No roll back whatsoever. They claimed there was no evidence I was hacked whatsoever. It wasn't so bad since they left some items including ancient accessories even over 100k ones so I just dealt with it.

As for an authenticator app. No reason why to say no to have it optional (not everyone cares to be overly cautious or has a smartphone).

account security is very a important topic, but suggestions presented in this manner are just not productive at all. PWE provides helpful tips in their knowledge base and we also have some stickied. as others have mentioned, account guard is a feature already in place designed to help protect your account.

if your account is compromised, you should immediately contact PWE support and give them as much information you can concerning the incident. they may not be able to tell you how your account was compromised, but they will be able to identify where it was accessed from. if you have disabled account guard or do not know if it is active, check out the above link. you can also log directly into account guard here.

    thanks.
