Hello there, with the new mod4 we've received a major change on our class. I'd like you to write here your opinions so far about Trapper and the way it works. Personally, I like it's synergy with Aspect of the Serpent so far and managing it's stacks with Deft's Strikes has given me big hits but I feel it lacks something, don't know if it's damage overall or the roots mechanics ain't that good enough. Any ideas and opinions?

Note: I know there's an official feedback thread but it's general and what I want to know is specifically about the new paragon tree.

HR Stormwarden Trapper / Stormwarden Combat
GWF Swordmaster Destroyer
CW Master of Flame Thaumaturge / Spellstorm Oppressor

I love the concept of a hybrid tree, but I think it's going to be surpassed by Archer for PVE and Combat for PVP.

If the set-bonus wasn't going to be nerfed/moved to combat, I would've loved to try it out in PVP.

I tested it in Icewind Dale and looks pretty good. You can root mobs and RoA over their heads easily (my main issue today with my Archer Ranger is targeting of RoA when mobs are running all over the place).
Archer will surpass it when it comes to single-target damage but now that CW control is being nerfed I think more control in a party will be welcome.
I tried using Constricting Arrow and Hindering Shot for lots of strong roots and crowd control looks great. Using Rain of Arrows as my third encounter, a Greater Plaguefire and the Royal Guard Armor I´m almost able to seamlessly rotate Constricting and Hindering.
But the trapper is not a DPS, it´s a controller so if you´re looking at big numbers on the Paingiver chart I think you can forget them.
I can easily see going very tanky with a Trapper in PvE and focusing on control, but we really have to see how CWs will work in future as the Trapper will share some of the same ground (as the Hunter Ranger does in D&D 4e being a controller albeit a crappy one there).

I'm unsure. I don't see anything in there that will give me the godawful encounter spam I am getting from the combination of agile hunter, prime critical and correcting aim. Looks to be more the control tree than the hybrid tree. Actually at this point looking at going 3 up archery and combat and maybe the damage buff will let me trade some power for recovery. I do approve of the changes to serpent as the major pian was with 5 stacks you need to make 10 attacks (spend 5 build 5) to get full effectiveness from it. If preview would load without crashing I might be able to decide...

Well, i ll give u my insight considering PvP mostly...

So, for me after some quick tooltip reading and some tests i decided to drop combat....dont get me wrong..some feats from combat tree sound op.. but for me the most important thing for HR specially for pvp is to spam spells.. aka CDR... and combat tree doesnt really offer anything of that.. there are 2 feats i wish i could get from that tree.. the hp regen on deflect and the non mitigated 15% damage... appart from that tho it has nothing else better to offer..

so 2 choices left... archrery or the new trapper tree... tested both vs some friends on IWD (both geared ,rank 9s , perfects)

trapper CC on players feels MEEEEEHHH....the roots have half their duration vs players so they are kinda irrelevant...i tried full root/stun rotations on them and still not enough to hold them on place...

then checked archery... the feats give u insane damage boost...can make ur attacks have more than 50% bonus damage.. and there is also the cdr feat... one thought is to go 21 archery 10 trapper... but surely at least 21 points on archery for me..

things might change.. some tweeks here and there so cant be sure i ll be using this when patch hits live..but atm archery is winning for me...
    thats about pvp..

for pve u have cws... and cws will be much more about control than damage comparing how they are atm... so i guess u ll need to be full damage as hr which means archery again :D

thats how im thinking about it so far..
