I would like to post some suggestions about what could be done to avoid the death of this game and see it prosper in future.
I will try to mention the most urgent matters which require our attention.
Abit about me, I'm a Devouted Cleric and started playing during the open BETA.
I'm looking forward into a constructive thread, so I would like you all to keep that in mind. English is NOT my native language, so I apologize in advance for any tremendous mistake I might present here.
The text in orange will represent the suggestions of other players and their corrections.
Neverwinter is about to celebrate its first Anniversary and for now we have a decent community number in-game, but we have the following problems:
- The New players struggle to raise their GS without involving ever-increasing ammounts of real-money. They can't catch up the rest as it involves alot of time and luck, alot of them just give up after reaching level 60 and realizing how hard will it be. (please understand, when I bought my miracle healer set....I payed like 100k for the Helm and another 150k for the Armor.... The game is getting beyond the reach of the new players, even if they want to keep playing everyday non-stop).
- The ZEN is very hard to obtain as very few people sell it. This is happening because 1 ZEN is worth less than 500 Astral Diamonds. This results in the impossibility for a new players to buy a "Retraiting Token"...a "Mount for the whole account"...a "companion"...etc.
- Items like bread in our lives are extremely expensive and have very few ways to be obtained:
*Coalescent Wards are the "bread" of this game and they are very very expensive, a new player will take a year or more to get two enchantments at decent level
*Even normal enchantment prices are getting very high because of the coalscent ward unavailability
- The content that new players have acess to is becoming less and less lucrative, meaning that their AD income is also getting lower and extends the grind to reach top players.
- The gear score gap is extremely high, what do I mean? At level 60 the total stat variation goes from like 2-3k to 10-12k (I haven't done any calculations, but the gap is extremely big), in the end this results in very big output differences..... Why is this a problem? It has to do with the damage output...right now if we sum all of the bonuses we can accumulate at level 60, the output will be extremely high...as if we are level 70)
It is normal to have progression at the top level, but it is not normal how big the gap is right now. Exemple: two level 60 players of the same class and one of them does 700 damage with an at-will power and another does 4000 damage with the same at-will power. The gap is too big....it feels like a level 60 is a level 70 or 80 player. This has a ripple effect in PVP and induces the following result gear > skill.
- The exaggerated power of certain classes make them very popular and there is a decline and near "extinction" of "unnecessary" classes. Guardian Fighters for exemple struggle to do PVE and PVP with other players. Some Tricksters are rejected over Great Weapon Fighters even if the team already has GWF and just needs a DPS.
- There is a big PVP unbalance between several classes. Which futher generates the "extinction" of certain classes and the loss of the community mass.
I would like to point some possible solutions, and here, I will also need the feedback of everyone. Once again, constructive feedback.
Here we go:
- Some people mentioned the fact that the New players are forced to read guides in order to have decent outputs. Maybe, the creation of better power & trait tootip would solve this problem.
- Lower the real-money price of Coalscent Ward. (This will allow more people to buy them with real-money and make more of them available on the in-game market, allowing new players to progress and reach the rest).
- Some people pointed the increase of the success rate of the lesser enchantments and enchantment upgrade in general (which is 1% right now). This would allow people to use some Preservation Wards and hope for a possible successful outcome sooner or later.
- Reduce the stat increase on reach enchant rank upgrade. (This will reduce the output gap between new level 60's and the seasoned players. Why? Because this will make it less "impossible" for a new level 60 with blue items and rank 5's to contribute to their teams while they gather their gear. At same time the seasoned players will retain their higher output, simply the gap between both will be smaller. Another outcome of this will make the skill more relevant, meaning that a big Gear Score difference won't be totally enogh to defeat another player, it will involve some skill.)
- Fix the tremendous power that some classes have. (Example: A controller class should excel in control, but be less effective in damage. A Melee damaging class should excel in close quarters damage but not in tanking)
- Give the classes in "extintion" viability. How? By making them more effective in their roles and at same time designing content that requires their presence. For example: Created dungeons where some bosses require the presence of a tank that can take ALOT of damage. This will alow Guardian Fighters to join groups, instead of having their place occupied by a Great Weapon Fighter.
- Stimulate susteinable groups, making players choose many classes instead of just two or maybe three. Here you will need both a good dungeon design and some class mechanic upgrades. (For example: Created Dungeon where you need a Tank, a Controller , a Damage Dealer and some Support Class - not necessarily a healing one)
- Allow strategy to shine in PVP meaning that pure combat not always solves the outcome. (This will require the creation of new PVP maps and PVP Victory Conditions, as the current ones force players to cross each other).
Final note:
I understand that you need money, and that you are here for money and that you're trying to make as much money as possible in the least possible time.
Though think of this, if you're game is having sucess, and you are receiving new players. If they stay, they can become potentional Payers, so please make certain items less expensive in the ZEN Market, so more players can become Payers and allow you (Perfect World) and us (players), both have "fun".
I am not sure about how hard obtaining decent GS is for new players (people still farm GG or t2 to get their gear) now but I do agree with people that state weapon/armor enchantments now are too expensive. Something needs to be done about it or it will just simply scare new players database away
My simple solution to coal wards problem is to give lesser and normal weapon enchantments some higher than 1% chance for a success with just preservation wards (like 7-10% for lesser and maybe 5% for normal?). As for lack of zen on exchange tab I believe that's because of the recent promo and lowering players database that actually would to contribute their $ into the game if not newbies "unfriendly) situation we have now. Just IMO

In retrospect, one option is to have coal wards remain behind the paywall, but introduce armor/weapon enchantments that AREN'T 1% success rate. That can still be inferior to coal ward requiring enchantments, but significantly less inferior to not having anything in those slots whatsoever.
Basically, the people who want to pay real money to gain a marginal return in effectiveness can do so, because that's their mentality. But the people who aren't willing to/can't do that can still have some level of success even without having done so. That's probably the most we can expect at this time.
No, the real problem with NWO's future is the elephant in the room: It's non-canon. That's not a problem from a player standpoint since I suspect a large percentage of the players don't even much care about the realms outside of the game (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here). The issue is that I can't imagine NWO having much in the way of support from the IP holder continuity wise, because of the major changes to the realms that are coming this fall. As far as Wizards of the Coast is concerned, NWO never existed and indeed, the world NWO exists within never even happened. So it'll be hard to get people invested in the game as a result of the intellectual property that it's using. And you can bet that NWO invested a fair amount in the Neverwinter IP.
Truthfully, I don't see a solution to this. NWO will likely continue to exist in its current incarnation, but I can't expect any kind of serious growth if it doesn't have the ability to really embrace the IP that makes up its setting.

The fact that a game needs a manual and guides to a new player start playing properly is a indicative of a serious problem. Games are presumable to be fun and accessible.
I would "suggect" you check your spelling. I am not trying to burn you with such a small infidelity, but I would understand if English is not your home language. It might be "worph" while to check spelling. As for "Retraiting Tocken" if you have thought carefully and cared for about what your build's result will be, you would not need it. I for one am not "expremely" dependent on wards, never really use those.
(I did not do the math, but the gap is extremely big)
You obviously did not do the math. If you have up-to-level gear you would not have 3k gs at level 60. You would at least have 5k. That is from a green Great Weapons Fighter. Blue gets you up to 8k - 9k gs when you reach level 60.
Your at will example of the damage difference of 700 to 4000, You do not do math nor do you think about it before you said it. Do you honestly expect to be the best when you hit level 60? No. You can not want to be that strong, even guys that pay for the items. You have to consider the boost that the total campaign boon gives you. Quite a lot. Which you have to work on. If AD earnings are one of your big concerns. What I like about this game it is not 100% pay to win. But you can, but that just spoils the fun of playing. Earning AD you might want to consider running a few dungeons and sell what you have, if I can get at least 2 epic items from a dungeon that is at the least 10k AD. The most profitable run I have had gave me a few much desired items and I got about 700 000 AD.
But to sum up:
You want it? Don't want to pay for it? Earn it.
ps: If I may add constructive advise for you is to again check spelling, think before posting and enjoy the rest of your day!
All good points and a very thoughtful post, to be sure. Though with regard to the subject I genuinely believe the word that comes to mind: "premature" is understated. So I will leave everyone with this:
"You are underestimating the future. You are fretting about the now; worrying about little things that don’t matter. You are wasting precious energy obsessing over irrelevant details. You don’t believe that a better future is out there and can be built, that it can exceed people’s expectations, because you’re spending so much time considering the truth of the present and the seemingly important lessons of the past."
It is not meant as a commentary against the OP as he makes very good points. But only a reminder that we tend to fear the future that hasn't and may never come to pass in the first place.
I think the zen shortage in the exchange isn't as much a shortage of sellers as the huge amount of buyers (as the standing buying bids amounting to over 1million zen per 500 AD only show) - apparently, an increasing mass of players does not have any use for their ADs other than buying zen. What does such a mass of zen is needed for? It would be nice to have some peek into the cs sales records, which probably is not going to happen, without it I can only speculate that the main commodity would be keys and probably nothing else...

Well, I disagree. Gear is easier to obtain than ever. Sure, you can't buy it off the AH without using a ton of money, but you can use Delve keys to get a chance at a drop in every dungeon. Beats the heck out of waiting for a Dungeon Delve event, then trying to chain run dungeons.
Plus the purples that drop from the Dread Ring campaign make great fillers prior to getting set gear from a dungeon. Even the weapons are very good for how easy they are to obtain.
Second...on the enchant thing...Having a soulforge (lesser is all you need) is critical at max level, but the weapon enchants aren't hugely overpowering. The best of the best, a Perfect Vorpal...do you know how much it's going to increase your DPS by? Take a guess. I'll wait.
People see the 50% MORE MORE MORE INCREASE INCREASE INCREASE and think it must be a huge DPS boost. It's not.
On the average character, a PERFECT Vorpal will up your DPS by 10-15% That's it. Yeah, it's a great boost when you can work up for it, but it's hardly going to sink the ship here.

Classy I corrected some of the mistakes you identified, and added a special warning for future incidents.

I tried to clarify what I meant and I will repeat it here aswell. I do not intend, nor I want to nullify the merit and hard work of seasoned players, I'm simply calling the attention of everyone at how exaggeratedly the damage is scaling at level 60.
My suggestion is to lower the scaling...so it becomes slightly harder to "overgear" someone and simply 1 hit low geared players.
Skill should matter at PVP, as should the Gear...but right now...only gear matters and 17k GS GWF will nearly 1 shot a 13-14k CW or TR...this should not happen.... gear should matter but it should not overcome skill.
In the end...no matter how hard the less equipped player tries to overcome his/her foe....the well equipped person will always win even if there are less brains (of course the current class balance in PVP also affects this).
I would say that the game lies to you at the beginning, and doesn't make it clear at all what are the actual primary stats, and more importantly what they do. It must be made more clear, a suggestion of recommended PVE stat, and recommended PVP stat would show it more clearly for new players, and help them decide what their toon is going to be built towards. The amount of people i've met with bad stat rolls, but spent way too much on zen + time on boons to consider a reroll is becoming a daily occurrence. Account binding artifact's makes absolute sense (you could even charge a character transfer fee of say 250k ad, helping towards the problem of lack of ad dumping) and allowing transfer of feywild sparks, means that people would enjoy the learning curve of character builds, and a reroll would entirely be justified (considering they spent tonnes already) rather than moving the game file to a secondary harddrive, lost to a world of data storage. This game is becoming to feel like a chore, i mean who wants to do sharandar dailies anyway, really, we do it because if we don't we will be left for dust in pvp; if boons weren't in pvp, i for 1 would certainly not do them.

, i would say do not underestimate the power of (soon to be) 3 boon trees, which even if rushed you cannot get them for a number of weeks
About the dungeon stuff, all we can say is people will stack CWs GWFs.
No matter how good or bad the dungeon design is.
TR and GF are NOT wanted in any -epic- dungeons since the nerfs happened before, and pretty much lost their damage/tank ability (I don't know anything about GF. :C)
GWFs are starting to be better tanks than GFs, and obviously deal more damage because it is a "warrior, that gave up on his shield to deal more damage" (and that means can tank better, lol)
CWs just the CC, and the AoE DPS.
And it's the easiest and fastest way to clear a dungeon.
Cryptic logic: PvE<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<PvP.
Unbalanced in PvP? Okay, get your class destroyed in PvE too.

WTB Class Reroll please
