Suggestion: Helpers?

Hello to all,

So I've been playing NeverWinter for about 3 months and I can say that's it been quite the experience.
There is however one thing that has peaked my curiosity, and I can't help to ask myself if the devs have ever thought of implementing a 'helper system'.

So, what is it?

For lack of a better term, I used 'helper system'. It's something that I have seen in many other games. Players who are particularly trustworthy, knowledgeable, and who have enough time on their hands are promoted (via an application system) to helpers, game-sages, supporters... call it what you will.

What do they do?

Helpers/Supporters do what their name implies. They help people and support the staff. This means dedicating time specifically to helping players in game, solving any issues they can and collect feedback from players.

Can they ban people?

No, of course not! In terms of "powers", they wouldn't require much. A function to temporarily mute a player might be helpful if used appropriately, particularly to diffuse certain situations. Otherwise, there's no "power" involved.

How can we identify a helper?

Usually, helpers have a tag in their name, for example [Helper]Nameofcharacter

Why would we need helpers?

There are numerous advantages:

1. They can provide a more direct link between staff team and the players.
2. They can help with many small issues which saves time to both players and staff.
3. They can act as role models to follow proper conduct in the game.

And these are just a few of them.

But how do we know that they can be trusted?

Helpers aren't chosen at random. There would be a forum application involved, acceptance of which would be controlled by forum staff.
Certain requirements would need to be met as well. Examples of such requirements would be:

- Minimum of x (e.g. 300 playing hours)
- At least x people supporting the application
- No history of misconduct within the game

Again, these are just examples. Some could be added or amended. Eventually, it could also be possible to have a requirement of having one who's already a helper vouch for you.

Will helpers get paid?

No. People become helpers because they genuinely want to help and promote a better player environment.

Conclusion

So yeah, that is my suggestion. I would love to hear feedback on this and maybe see this system implemented some time in the future (maybe as part of Module 4?).

Good day to everyone,

Stefan M.

P.S. Please excuse the colors if they bug you. I'm color blind so I can't distinguish between some of them :)

Fair enough. But what about in game? Wouldn't it be nice to have specific people to refer your issues to?

Well, on the one hand, it would be nice to have a quicker response to GM requests, but on the OTOH, they would have to implement a fairly thorough application process, so as to weed out anyone who might abuse their assistant-GM powers, etc.

Yes, definitely. The process would be strictly controlled by staff, who also determine the requirements.

There is also the fact that US based MMOs have already been sued for compensation by ingame volunteers

I would like it, for example, have a Help Channel were ppl could ask stuff and these helpers would answer, but I think they shouldn't have have special privileges nor commands, the only thing they should do is comment in this channel with a diferent color and maybe mute players (in that channel), so spammers wouldn't be spamming so often.

I don't see why they should have power that might be abused, with no powers and commands more than mute some spammer you can do all the help a newbie can need.

That's a perfectly possible solution oicidraz. The details obviously need to be worked out.. the whole thing is a draft plan that took me a few minutes to conjure.
