So, unless I'm missing things, there doesn't seem to be a way to get things that cost Zen at all, and to get things that cost AD, you need to farm for it still (I know you can copy characters from the live server over, and they'll have all of their AD, but none of mine have much AD at all.) Also, you still need to level characters up to 60. You can't just make a new one that instantly is 60.
Is it just me, or do these kinda defeat the purpose of a "Test" server, if you still need to work a lot to even get to the point where you can TEST things...
Is it this way to make it so that people don't just play the game on the test server?
You can just play the game on the test server and even spend 100% of all your time there if you choose. However, the test server is completely "disconnected" from the live server - otherwise there could be some serious exploits created.
The main ways to use the test server is two-fold:
1) Copy an existing leveled character over with all inventory and gear
2) Roll a new character to experience that new character
In both cases the purpose is for *testing*.
Testing reasons are two-fold:
1) To test new content/architecture/features created by Cryptic not available on Live yet and help find bugs/provide feedback
2) Personal testing to see how something works, looks, feels, etc.
For example: I am fortunate to have been able to afford the recent full Companions pack from the Z-Store. Once I received and unpacked them I copied that character to the Preview server. I will now equip all of them and then do some play-testing to decide which Companions I like and decide how to save/distribute/use/sell them.
Another example is to try different paragon paths, etc.
I can do this on the test server without doing it on the live server as all my companions will still be unbound on the live server.
So: the idea of the Preview Test Server is just that: to preview new Cryptic workings or to go in and test things for yourself without altering/changing things on your "real" characters on Live.

How do I copy an existing character over to the test server? where do I go to do it?
