I dont think your question can even be answered accurately without you providing us with your playstyle. Is your CW used primarily for pvp, solo farming trash mobs, dungeon running, etc.?

First off need an augment - like Ioun stone. After that some good ones are:
Dancing blade - wondrous bazaar.
Sellsword - Companion vendor in PE
Fire Archon - AH or trade bars
Lightfoot thief - rank 6 gateway game/AH(very expensive/rare)

Well, that owl is too good to pass up. It'll likely get those mobs attacking other CWs first.

Ok here's the combinations I've used... and why...
Renegade Specs:
Wild Hunt Rider 2% chance to do 10% more damage.
Fire Sprite: 2% more action point gain
Orc Wolf: +300 Crit Strike
Blink Dog: +3% Combat Advantage Damage
Ioun of Radiance +155 Lifesteal, +155 Deflection
(I stack this with a good 1700 power, 700 crit, 250 ARP, 250 Health, and assorted other stats)
Druid: 105 Recovery, 600 Health (also a good fighting pet, it stuns enemies so you can kill them)
Acolyte of Kelemvor: +3% healing bonus. (Great fighting pet, gives you a 10% reduction in damage, AND an enormous lifesteal buff, generally better with Spellstorm than MoF as the payouts for high burst damage are excellent.)
Frost Mimic: +100 defense, (Excellent tank pet, one of the best. This thing can take a pummeling and come out of it)
Ioun Stone of Allure: 7% chance to slow targets, (Excellent Ioun Stone, but the Radiance has all Offensive Rune Slots for more power, so only gets slotted for active bonus mostly)
War Dog: 6% Threat Reduction
(Another excellent tank pet, but... alas my Owl outdamages it and gets agro much faster, also is a Purple, if not for the Owl, this would be one of my slotted pets, I do love this thing, but I love the Owl more)
Renegade Mercenary: 105 power, 105 Armor Pen (already have mystagog which fits my active bonuses better, but this one will come in handy if I change gear and need to swap for stat balancing)
Pets I don't get any use out of:
Slimer: +200 Defense when controlled. (Active bonus on this one is good... for a melee class, as is its little flatten itself and suck all the mobs in... move. Great for all other classes... but Mages and Clerics)
Ghost: 5% Damage bonus, only affects summoned companion (I actually love this pet.... but other pets do more damage, and the active bonus only applies to summoned companions), I LOVE its possession moves when it possesses an enemy and makes it fight the other ones. I suspect this pet would also be better for a Cleric or Fighter class. We just don't get much use out of it as mages.

Here is an almost complete list that another user posted.
I'd look at it and pick the ones that give you what you need as active bonus. Only you can really decide that, as only you can see your stats and know where you are in diminishing returns and where you could use a boost.
Ioun Stone of Allure - almost always summoned, for obvious reasons.
Galeb Dhur - Depending on how much HP you are missing it will boost your damage by up to 10%
Dancing Blade - 5% more crit severity
Wild Hunt Rider - Fully upgraded it has a 5% chance to boost your damage by 10% for 5 seconds every time you use an encounter ability. This one procs like mad and, in my opinion, is about the best passive bonus there is.
Cave Bear - 1200 more HP when fully upgraded.
Other good options are the Fire Archon which boosts damage by 5% on targets below 30% HP (good for boss burns, like Valindra). The Sellsword which gives +300 Power (like having an extra Rank 10 Radiant equipped). Also, they're expensive as all heck but I've heard the Lightfoot Theif adds a fair amount of damage.

I'm a sucker for survivability. I'll probably get a honey badger for my mains in the future. Best CW gear is loaded with regen.

I have to agree,
I don't think other classes get near the results we do as Mages with it. But our AoEs allow us to proc more effects than any other class because we're constantly AoEing.
Certain classes get better uses out of some pets than others. One of ours is that Wild Hunt Rider.

Do certain encounters have a higher proc rate than 5% or something? Seems low.

Yeah it IS low... but when you're hitting 10 targets at a time with an AoE, it procs a lot.
So yeah if you were just doing single target damage, then it almost never procs... but when you're using a lot of Mass Mob AoE attacks like we are as mages... it hits enough things that procs a lot more than any other class, because we're hitting so many targets.
So something like a Rogue or a GWF would never get any use out of it as it would rarely if ever proc... but for us... because of that... it procs a ton more than everyone else.
Galeb Duhr: Tried. Not that good I think. Lifesteal is killing it.
Aranea: While Storm Spell is 6-8 % dmg. Its only 1% dmg(by ACT)
Unsure about what is procced by it.
Probably better for a Gwf because of the higher weapon dmg
Lightfoot Thief: Yeah! Would love to test it! Too expensive for me though!
Sellsword: decent

Proc on hit?
0
silverquickMember, Neverwinter Beta UsersPosts: 1Arc User
Yes, it apparently functions like every other proc on every other item in this game,
... meaning the engine likely calculates it per hit rather than per spell. And whatever it is that does this is likely deeply imbedded in the engine in a way it cannot be changed. I do not know that for sure, but it is an educated guess since its that way across the board.
Wild Hunt Rider fully upgraded to purple (as others have said, the 5% chance procs often with our AoEs and the damage bonus is excellent)
Cave Bear fully upgraded to purple (love the 1600 HP, I built my CW to be quite tanky and the extra HP is just what I needed)
Druid fully upgraded to purple (another 660 HP +165 Recover, I don't really need the recovery but the HP is great, and he is a solid combat pet or at least as solid as a combat pet can be)
Ioun Stone of Radiance upgraded to blue (planning on going to purple but have not spent the AD to do so yet. Just about any Ioun Stone is a good choice, just depends on what stats you are trying to boost)
Wererat Thief at blue (just for grins and giggles, the poison effect is ok, but nothing special.)
I am planning on swapping out the Wererat for a Fire Archon, but I am hoping the price on the Archon will drop a bit.
I'm thinking about picking up a stone of allure(since I missed out on the radiance one). What sort of gear should I get for it? I was thinking about berserker rings of cleaving for power/arpen/ls and the prophet champion icon. Any other suggestions?

For some reason a wild hunt rider was on the AH for only 160,000. Bought that in a heartbeat.
My choice:
IS of radiance
Hawk
Skeleton
Dancing Blade
Sellsword
I have the chimera - Lightfoot thief also (just to make you feel "bad" - 4 runs in one day I got 3 :P) and Im in process to tune my CW atm. Will try to change with Skeleton and Hawk to see if the myths are real or just ... myths. Just waiting Castle never lag to be fixed ...
You can say - stats only are stupid, but i tried in dungeons Wild hunt rider and slyblade and can say that all depends on the party: more CW - slyblade works better, less CW - WHR is better choice, playing at open map (Sharandar/Dread Ring/Icewind Dale) - Hawk. In some point Fire Archon is working good but i play for fun and i dont want to stare at the monitor all the time and calculate when is the best time to start some encounters.
I have Galeb Duhr and imo - this is not companion for CW.
And if i cant see soooo big difference btw my dmg at the end of the dungeon while using WHR or Slyblade or Hawk or Skeleton i chose Hawk and Skeleton, just because .... i like them... If for you 1mil dmg at the end of CN is something great, chose WHR or/and Slyblade of Kobold instead of stats companions.
