Okay gonna test out just how really difficult IWD is on my brand new GWF.

No epic set gear.
Lesser Vorpal.
No Soul Forged.
3 Dread ring boons only.
Using 50% speed mount.
I do have a lvl 20 Stone Companion.

Current GS is 10.8K

I do have have 4 artifacts, none are past lvl 29 right now, I resisted the urge to level them up from my other toons.
Only gear have bought is a non epic sword and the shards to make the lesser vorpal.

Class ones CW, HR, and GWF
and Waters.

I did not use any class guide to selecting my powers and feats, I choose whatever I thought would be helpful or useful for how I play.

I tried to keep the alt pretty close to normal. As well as close to the bare entry requirements.

I am gonna be entering IWP in a couple of minutes for the first time on this alt, and will let anyone interesting know how it goes.

Well if you have a set with regeneration and Def you dont necessarily die in Encounters - depends on the build tho. But prepare tu burn a lot of potions!

/edit: the Stone adds like 2k GS

LOL...MY HR rocks in IWD...but he is very welled geared and all. My CW does okay too, I do not play my other lvl 60 toons. You also have to realize I play tested almost exclusively on preview with mod 3 so I do know how every encounter should go, and I know where every quest is.

I wanted to see how it would be there meeting the min requirements.

    Status so far.

Completed all my quests with ease.

First HE The Mother Lode..well can't really can't this one only me and a CW showed up and we failed. I died 5 times before the time ran out.

Marauding Barbarians went fine solo, used a couple of potions. It was a non kick your *** version.

2nd Mother Loade about 12 people there...got revived once...was the tank on the giant.

3rd Mother Loade ...crashed as the giant arrived.

Logged back in to The Remorahaz HE at 75% health. Got the 150 black ice reward and all...but no gloves lol.

I do not have any real conclusions or opinions yet about min spec entering IWD.

My HR for some reason is awful with like 13k gs. Each of my other classes manage to do it alright. My HR is the only one who can't seem to handle bugged 2-3 man HEs (solo).

So far...I am only seeing you have to play smarter and less room for error.

My HR just did a bugged one totally solo, during me running his dailies very fast, but you know my HR hardly ever stands still.

Close to min requirements with mediocre gear & not following a class guide? Sounds like my CW & GWF in icewind. :D (The GWF is doing ok, the CW just gets plastered all over the place. No armor enchant, rank 5/6 other ones, lesser bilethorn on the GWF/lesser lightning on the CW; Lillend & basic white cleric as their companions. Dread Ring lair purples for gear. No set bonuses.)

Haven't bothered with the ~10k DC, the other CW (fire spec), or the 11k GF.

If you have a decent supply of potions, and are smart about the groups of enemies you attack for the daily quests, (being sure to avoid unwanted adds and such), you should be ok. I recommend switching to a cleric companion between groups, to reduce downtime between groups. I'd also recommend hooking up with other people instead of trying to solo the heroic encounters, (perhaps focus on the barbarian raiders, protect the merchant, or totem of Auril HEs for the time being)...

OP: You mentioned you didn't have any epic set gear - do you at least have some purple gear, or at least all blue gear?

EDIT: I noticed you said you had a lesser vorpal, so you must at least have an epic or blue weapon...

I am doing this for fun and to see why everyone is whining so bad about how hard this mod is. My thoughts so far being at just above the entry requirements is people should not be whining but enjoying the challenge vs DR or Sharander if they are indeed there with just the bare min requirements.

It is a challenge, but fun, you have to actually think about what the hell your doing and be aware of your surroundings at all time.

I purposely kept my GS and boon to the min for this test. The 2-3 HE are not a problem for me to solo. I do not use a cleric companion at all.

Yes I die some, though it is more due to either black ice damage or not getting out of multiple red areas quick enough and I do not have soul forged.

Yeah I do have a epic sword on this alt, almost all of my gear is blue, I have 4 epic items, 2 rings, sword, and now gloves. I got everything as drops but my sword, bought it for 625 AD on teh AH. Not out of the realm of a very casual player. My lesser vorpal I made. I did get a coal ward off my HR for that though.

Got black ice gloves on my 2nd THe Remorahaz today.

Having a tough time with my 10.2k CW. But I'm working it slowly and things are improving. I'm not much of one for chasing numbers but a GS of 12K+ seems to be a good survival marker. I have 13K+ on my HR and GF and they both do pretty well.

This is a cool concept, intentionally, doing the content in low gear/boons... Kudos to you bud! *high five*

DC's, to me, are great in Icewind Dale from a party standpoint, particularly in the Epic HE's... So just roll with a team, it will help a lot and speed it up for ya! :)

I just have my 14.1k GS DC (High Prophet set) and my 14.3 GS GF (High General) in IWD at the moment. And honestly, my cleric is having an easier time of it than the GF is, I think mostly because of more AOE damage on the cleric. Well in IceWind Pass, at any rate, they are about the same in Dwarven Valley. Both can solo the 2-3 HEs, but not without a lot of kiting and such. Neither have gotten their gauntlets, but not really a surprise as both do enough damage, but not lots of damage. My cleric has lesser negation and lesser Frost enchants, and mostly 6s with a few 7s. My guardian has lesser terror and lesser elven battle, and 6s and 7s.

I think there are some bugs with the mob damage in IWD. There are some mobs that can essentially 1 shot any of my characters (CW, GWF, TR) all with 16K+gs.

Most of the mobs are easy, but I think a few slipped through the cracks and are just dealing damage that is way out of line.

Easy. GWF is broken. Just hit a pot on your unstoppable cycle and you can clear it.

GWFs seem to have it easy in IWD. My cleric has teamed up with a few different GWFs on different Blue HEs. The two of us were having no problems but then everybody shows up just as the boss spawns.
We could have taken them.

It's the purple HEs that GWFs gets creamed at when they try it alone........without backup.........a few wizards and rangers laughing at him from the snowy hill.

I'm focusing on my GF first in IWD. My DC and GWF have only spent one day in there to get the ball rolling.

The GF is is full T2, Ancient weapons, full Dread boons, 2 Sharandar boons, has 5 artifacts to choose from (4 blue, 1 green) and is orientated towards DPS and it takes some effort in there. I avoid the Totem if I am by myself because the 2nd wave wipes me, but I can manage the 2-3 HEs. The Bear Tribe can be a pain though.

My GWF is only 2-part Avatar of War, normal Vorpal, rank 5s & 6s, missing 1 Dread boon, has 2 Sharandar boons and has 5 artifacts (lower leveled than the GFs) and he just carves through IWD.

Long story short; as with the rest of this game, GWF is ezmode.
PSA: You don't need to grind Spinward Rise for your Elemental artifact main hand if you have some AD lying around. You can craft it via the Tyranny of Dragon's campaign screen.

Those mobs that can one shot you....are using extensive black ice damage attacks and/or several black ice damage attacks are hitting you at once. It is working as intended.

I must say something on this low GS, bad enchants, 3 boons only fun test and min requirement test, I started.

I have never played a melee class in any game, I have only played ranged and almost 100% of the time a caster. So I do not play it well. I also rushed my leveling up, took me about 2 days to get to 60, Then I rushed my DR boons to get 3. I did the DR round the night I got 60, went to bed, did another round of DR, used 4 relics I had and bought the rest of the relics to get to the 3rd boon.

Like I previously stated, I pretty much tried to keep the alt as close as I could to what you would see from a true new player running around.

Obviously I do have some advantages with have a stable of already lvl 60 toons as well as I totally knowing the content in IWD and what it takes to win every HE in IWD.
