HammerStone pick

I am a little bit confused from the text (as it includes truesilver grip charges)

Can someone explain the benefits of this? Does it have unlimited charges? Is it worth it?

    don`t know how it works, but the 300% extra ice is worth it.
    although i`m not sure if i like the black ice stuf.
    getting about 180 each ice thingy, but that`s also with the extra ice from the campaign buf.(3%)

    So you bought it and you get 180 black ice per mine (w/ your 3% buff).

    The animation is faster or the same?

    And lastly, you recommend to buy it?

    descriptions says it`s 4 seconds faster.
    not sure if it s realy that much.
    if you `re going to mine much yes buy without a doubt ;p
    180 per drop from the node.

    but i`m the last to know if this whole ice age is worth playing

    how much ice you get normaly from a single thingy ? 50 or 60 ?
    i doubt a bit if the 3% buf is working

    just realized with the hammerstone, its 150(x3) on non-pvp flagged areas and 180 (x4) on pvp flagged areas.

    Were you farming on the pvp area?

    Hammerstone picks are the single best IWD item you can buy. If you're serious about farming black ice, they are a must have. Not only do you get 3 times the black ice quantity, but you farm that amount in 6 seconds instead of 10. That's important in PvP areas and/or when competing with a friendly player for a node. You'll get 4x180 black ice fragments to their 2x60 ones.

    150 outside pvp area.

    It doesn't matter how much raw ice you have unless you have the gauntlets to process it.

    You could mine up 20k raw ice a day, but you'll only be able to process as much as you have gauntlets for.

    So far I don't have the pick and I have plenty of raw ice to process.
    Hammerstone picks are the single best IWD item you can buy. If you're serious about farming black ice, they are a must have.     Nope. Gauntlets are the barrier to more production, not the amount of raw ice you have.

    I suppose if you already have 6 gauntlets, then yeah a pick MIGHT come in handy. Until then you need more gauntlets.

    How much black ice do you really need long term? By the time anyone can even unlock black ice shaping 3 you would probably have tons. I see this as very gimmicky and not really necessary long term.

    You actually need a lot, but the pick only helps you get raw black ice. You could have a billion raw black ice but if you only have 1 gauntlet, you're looking at 1-2k refined ice a day.

    1500 processed black ice is enough to fuel 1 piece of armor at T3 for about 7 hours or so, longer if you are using salves.

    So... you do the math on how much you need.

    Like the guy above said, gauntlets are the limiting factor. I have 3 now so that I can mass process enough ice while I am offline to keep myself playing.

    This is true. Gauntlets are the limiting factor, but they'll crash in price once Kessel's has been open for awhile. One gauntlet, along with 2 Cryomancers, lets you refine 3k raw black ice per toon per day. I personally have 9 toons in IWD. Farming 27k raw black ice with Hammerstone picks is fast and easy. Maintaining that level of production without Hammerstone Picks is a full time job.

    I repeat. Hammerstone picks are the single best IWD investment you can possibly make. :)

    As for how much Black Ice you need? Approximately 20k refined black ice per armor/weapon piece. Then you need to keep them fed. It rapidly adds up. It's an interesting mechanic, but I hate it. It's enough of a grind acquiring/crafting this stuff in the first place.

    I look forward to module 4 gear making Black Ice obsolete. Hopefully we never again need to grind for armor after acquiring it.

    That is quite a bit needed if you are going to run 6 pieces. You would need approximately 9K per day (assuming 7 hours per day) raw and as you mentioned enough gauntlets to refine that much. Except perhaps for Kessels, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. If you are already at the soft cap for most stats, I'm not so sure it will be worth running BI gear. Who knows what Mod 4 will bring in 2 months...

    Why would kessel's drop the price on gauntlets? Do they drop there or something?

    I only see the price of gauntlets going up as more people suddenly need more black ice.

    The pick on the other hand will always be the same price or lower.

    I suppose I can see the pick (or in this case, picks- 3 of them), being useful if you're trying to run 3 toons at once through IWD. I'm not sure many are attempting to do such a thing though.

    Some people have been saying they'll probably keep the BI gear in the bag and bring it out for hard fights.

    But in any case, there's no soft cap on power. My HR is looking to get a lot more power with the BI gear and have fully fleshed out other stats as well.

    I should have added - that 7 hours or so of T3 power is just time spent in combat. It's actually quite generous if you ask me, even if you had a full 6 pieces going at full T3 power, if you used salves (and you get a free 20% one every day) you'd probably only spend a few hundred black ice doing a normal instance.

    I don't think it's as bad as everyone is speculating.

    Does anyone know where to acquire the 'mithral pick spike' mentioned in the description of both the Hammerstone Pick and the Black Ice Pick?
