Cold Iron Warrior seems to be the strongest companion out of them all. [in 1v1]

So I spent quite some time in NW preview with my brother and another guild mate. Testing companions and making them 1v1. Which is quite entertaining, you guys should try it, grab some popcorn and watch companions go at it.

We tried various companions.... Rust Monster, Lillend, Phoera, Wayward Wizard, Man-At-Arms, Sellsword, Chest Mimic, Skeleton, Ghost Paladin, Renegade Evoker, Renegade Illusionist, Blink Dog, Portal Hound, Normal Dog, Shepherd, Sprite, Flame Sprite, Green Slime, Dancing Blade, Jagged Dancing blade. etc etc. You name it. Companions above varied from Epic-Blue, a few greens.

Cold Iron Warrior went on top in every single 1v1 despite being GREEN quality (He beat most epic companions, haven't tried a few for example Pseudodragon or Dread Warrior yet but I'm pretty sure it'll be the same result). If the Cold Iron was purple quality he'd trash them even easier.

I think the reason of this huge power gap is because the Cold Iron warrior strikes continuously (He uses Sure Strike). Unlike other companions who have AI of potatoes and are very slow. + When the Cold Iron Warrior uses Spinning Strike, his HP gets completely restored.

It was hilarious watching him dispatching the companions one after another. It was like watching the Pre-Nerf GWF's going berserk and being unbeatable.

Conclusion: Cold Iron Warrior is the King of Companions. Too bad his active bonus is meh.

In the grand scheme of things, most companions are HAMSTER. People will summon out their augment or in some rare cases, a fawn.

Unless they have a special slot for augments and another summon spot for regular companions, I don't think it matters

Interesting and it is fun. I watched my Damaran Sheperd fight my bro's Pig. The Pig kicks up mud so it looks like they're really having a scuffle in the dirt.

And how about those NPC's in the PVP area on Preview? I was fighting a player-controlled CW and the darn NPC TR smoke-bombed me. . . So nearly died because of it. Very tricksy.
PSA: You don't need to grind Spinward Rise for your Elemental artifact main hand if you have some AD lying around. You can craft it via the Tyranny of Dragon's campaign screen.

Oh dear, that all sounds a bit "MY POKEMANS. LET ME SHOW YOU THEM".

    Great experiment, thanks!

However, your results would have more legitimation if you also listed them by rarity (color level) and skill level (XP points). I suspect if all your companions were at maximum level the results would be a bit different. For example, I'm willing the bet the Cold Iron Warrior would have a difficult time with the Cave Bear, Galeb Duhr and especially the Dread Warrior.

But over all, such an experiment (with itemized results) would be genuinely useful, but I can understand the length of time and massive effort that would be.

Overall, wonderful experiment, thanks for this.

You know I never really thought of companion battles before but I am liking the idea a lot. Sounds like it can be a lot of fun, give me more of a reason to equip companions better, get other companions, have betting matches w/ companions (bragging rights, gold, items, AD, etc.) I'll have to try this with my guildmates. Thanks for the info!

Pokemon D&D style! Good ol' Dark Sun and gladiator matches! Can we has, Devs? I would definately toss zen away for better companions if this becomes a thing! Just think of the money. Selling different types of companion augments, companion weapons, and companions! Give us some sort of reward as well if our companions win. :D

+1, I would love to have "Companion Arena" that would occurs in something like the "Pit Fight" skirmish map (but in a smaller one), and maybe there could be 1v1 or 3v3 (If it happens in a small arena, I think 5v5 would be too much).

Chicken figh... er, Companion fights are currently illegal for the cruelty to animals and Companions act.

(But an underground, behind the pub arena for such blessed by the Devs would definitely be the bestest speakeasy evar!)

Wow, what a great idea! It would create a whole new game (within a game) all about Companion trading and combat competition and even make that whole "Collections" thing actually *mean* something. What an awesome idea.

It would kill my wallet so I must say I vote no. ~cough~

Seems like Joocy brought a whole new excitement with this experiment lol. I would've never thought of making companions fights in Preview, what a great idea and it might be the start for something great.

    +1 to companion Arena !
