PVE GWF: Avatar of War vs. Fabled Iliyanbruen

Has there been a detailed analysis on which set is better? I know that most players prefer the Avatar of War set, but wondering if the Fabled set offers any sort of other benefit, like a more frequent proc rate or something like that.

Avatar of War is widely accepted as a better set for pure damage. The set bonus effect is relatively easy to keep up almost all of the time during battle.

The Fabled set is still a great option and in my opinion is very underrated in its usefulness. You will be unstoppable much more often than with Avatar of War, and you're Unstoppables will also last much longer, as the set can proc during Unstoppable, extending your time in Unstoppable. It's a great set for non-Destroyers in particular, who do not have the Destro capstone feat which builds Determination. As a GWF, it can be a pain to constantly sprint out of knockback red zones, and I found with the Fabled set I was more frequently able to enter Unstoppable when I needed to avoid red zones.

If you want to be a damage machine and top the Paingiver chart, go with Avatar of War. If you don't really mind a slight drop in total damage, the Fabled set can go a long way in helping you stay in the thick of the fight, dumping at-wills and encounters on baddies without having to worry about being caught out of Unstoppable and needing to sprint away.

Thanks for that. I am Swordmaster Destroyer, I have Avatar of War right now, but based on your response I'm wondering if the Fabled set might be better if/when I'm asked to be on tank duty.

At a certain point, with high enough life steal (around 10%) and offensive capabilities, you will be able to tank almost everything without having to worry about anything. Your damage output is what will keep you alive making any "tanky" set redundant and rendering the AoW set the be-all and end-all choice for a PVE GWF. (Pre mod3)

AoW is the best and after power rework with mod 3 will be even better since 1300 power will be some 7% damage boost

Feats: Destroyer's Purpose: NEW This feat now grants an additional effect. When you deal damage while Unstoppable, you gain a stack of Destroyer's Purpose (max 20). Each stack of Destroyer's Purpose increases your damage by 1%. Destroyer's Purpose lasts 20 seconds.

    UPDATES:

Destroyer's Purpose: Each stack now grants 2% (up from 1%) and lasts 25 seconds (up from 20 seconds).

They should keep pretty good parity in Module 3.

Destroyer here. Delivering damage keeps you alive. The problem is when you're not. It's very easy to get caught in a chain of stuns, prones, dazed, whatever, taking damage without delivering any. Even in a simple dungeon like Pirate King. Your bar is full and you're hitting Tab like mad but Unstoppable does not come because your char is oh-so-slowly recovering from prone.

As for the cap feat of destroyer branch, the determination gained is very low. Try hitting dummies in Blade Vendor, it takes years to get your bar full.

Also in mod3, Unstoppable duration is reduced by 30%, while Deep Gash basically disappears, and generally speaking crits will become a rarity. So, the philosophy of "sustain by damage" is a thing of the past. Will this make Fabled set more popular? Probably not, as new gear is coming with the new mod and, like it or not, the mod3 gwfs will have to choose it, just to survive the mod3 foes.

I run through CN using full fabled set one time (i simply forgot to equip AoW). Up until draco's gate, my total DPS reduced by about ~3M. Since then i haven't try it again. But with Mod 3 coming requiring us build up stacks using unstoppable, fabled set might have nice appeals. You do get determination faster and a lil bit longer tho.

Yea, Fabled Ilyanbruen also has problems with Bone Golems and Archers in CN, but the quick intro/duration to unstoppable should make the difference.

Absolutely, to get the arms and main weapon.

(Slightly off-topic - Black Ice sets will be worth holding in both forms, Corrupted looks more PvE group friendly than Purified, and there was no limit to items held on preview)
