    Hello,

Also getting this same error. I haven't seen it before. The game crashes after Cryptic screen has loaded and just at the start up of the Neverwinter 'splash screen'.

I was just playing successfully last night (April 4) so maybe a recent update is causing this. Very annoying as browser also crashes and graphics driver re-starts itself.

    System Specs: Windows 7 (64-bit), NVIDIA GeForce G 103M (512MB), driver version = 314.22

As a work-around, I have started the game in 'Safe Mode' and this seems to bypass this bug.

Im not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but I did when I first started playing the game and the solution was that my latest Nvidia driver, most up to date as of may 2014, was HAMSTER. I had to roll the version back to the one released just after the new year in 2014 and that fixed the problem.

Also, if you've ever edited the system properties/ advanced/ startup and recovery/ settings file because another game told you to add something in the notepad file after the last line that says /fastdetect - erase anything you added after that. Only erase it if you edited it yourself though, don't go playing with it if you didn't.

I've been having this exact same problem for a while as well, I posted a thread about it here and sent a bug report, but doesn't seem they've gotten around to it just yet.
@arvaike1 - interesting solution, i will try this as I have nvidia as well, and update frequently. I'll post here if it fixes the problem, to offer other people more evidence that this is the cause.

I got the same Error. And i am an nVidia user as well (GTX770)

    The Error Code means this:
The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed.
    Source:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb509553%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

It seems it is a problem that Neverwinter is producing in combination with some graphic driver versions. I tried several Settings and the best was to set DirectX to Version 9 (you can do this in the game). The result of this setting is that instead you got kicked out of the game you get a black screen for 1-3 Seconds in which the graphic driver is newly initialize, sometimes (it's very rare) you get kicked out of the game anyway with a small Windows Error Code that the nVidia grapic driver kernell is newly initialize.

I most have this problem in new parts of the game. Sometimes i get it every 5 minutes or i only get it only 1-3 Times while playing a really long session (it's rare that i don't get this error and i can mark it in my calendar if i have a error free day).

I tested everything, installed the drivers new, Neverwinter, made benchmarks and furmark test. The graphic card is finde, my pc hardware is fine. It only occures in Neverwinter.

Edit: I would really appreciate if some of the Devs would investigate it (*pretty please*). Or tell us which drivers are needed to play neverwinter proper.

Note: Most Problems Occure If I Open Parts Of The UI, Like The Inventory Or The Characterwindow.

Fix that worked for me was to set it to use DX9. I also did a force verify.

    Options -> Display-> Video Card -> Choose Direct3d 9ex (or 9).

I just built a new rig because of this issue, sounds like customer/tech service has no clue. I'm using the GeForce GTX 760 video card so I don't know if I can roll back to an old driver or not.

Same video card (gtx 760Twinfrost) with same error code... i tryed all possible start it as windows xp/7/8 no changes , with that new mod 5 for me its now impossible to start game with the invidia geforce experiance because game is crashing before i can get in my account...For now i start the game by ''Arc games'' i think the problem is from Cryptic and graphic card drivers arent compatible... Cryptic needs to work with other compagny to get thier persistant Crash problems done

This is happening to a lot of people. It have nothing to do with anyone's computer, it's on Cryptic's side. I opened a thread sometime ago about it, but then found a fix by downloading directx again, posted the link in another thread that someone made. BUT, seems now that option is not working, someone posted another option which I honestly don't remember correctly and have being looking for it again in the forums. It was something about NOT DOWNLOADING the web something (maybe web application or anything like that) of directx but the application itself and opening the folder and extract the setup to another folder. I did that but coudln't instal direct x (I use windows 8.1). So what I did was install direct x DIRECTLY FROM THE FOLDER, and it worked. I'm in the game right now. I'm sorry I couldn't be more specific but if the person that posted that option see this, please let people know, I can't find your post.

    Hope it helps anyone.

OMG - this actually WORKED! I deleted Direct X from my computer and restarted my computer. Downloaded the Direct X app from the Microsoft website and restarted my computer again. I loaded and logged into the game and Voila!
    Thank you so much!

Good, that i didn't had to start this thread. ;)

I asked a few days ago, but no response came to my question, if this game was mainly for AMD cards.

I have a nice NVidia card and i am experiencing graphical issues since a time, but lately they are so huge, that i had more times a huge head ache from playing it, picture falls apart, textures load slow and the new Winter Festival ice run map is very clog sometimes. I have tried to switch back to dx9 settings and have experimented with a few advanced settings to, but when i started the game again, it was/ is terrible again.

My PC is a high end and everything works ok, my system was completely re installed a few days ago and i have the latest video card driver on it, which came out yesterday, still the picture is very poor.

Yeah, I've been having this same problem. I took the month of November off to write a novel, and since I came back in early December, I haven't been able to load the game. I have tried force verifying and not force verifying, & that has no impact. Whichever I choose, as soon as it gets to the "CRYPTIC" splash screen, the whole game crashes, along with my firefox window, which whites out.

I don't know whether I have nvidia or AMD or whatever, and I'm not really sure how to find out, short of searching aimlessly through every file folder in my computer, so I don't have a clue of how to fix it. If I don't get some help, I might have to give up this game.

Install DirectX 9 again. Load the game in safe mode and force the use of DirectX 9. Restart in normal mode.

How would I force the use of DirectX 9? Safe mode didn't help me; the game still crashed at the "CRYPTIC" splash screen.

I am affected as well. Not only does the game crash, it sometimes takes out Windows as well and forces it to restart.
