Today I hit ALT and went to my mail button. After I read the spam and junk mail from the devs... I started composing a very long message. Everything looked great and I hit send... It CLEARED and says you must be near a mailbox to send messages.
1. Then DON'T put compose in the mail feature! Place it as read only or...
2. Save the composed mail to a single auto save slot.
3. Do away with mailboxes altogether just use the HUD button. Honestly I hated them in WoW too. Eliminate the crowds of players grouped around the wooden box. Players could read and write mail anywhere and send it by pigeon.
Sorry players, just had to vent...

Odd, I am pretty sure I have sent mail from places other then near a mailbox. Did you have an item attached, that is the only thing I know of that you can't send (or receive) from anywhere. Anything that strictly involves words should work, unless they changed it.
Neverwinter players are stubborn things....until you strip them down to bone. (Cursed players, my flowers, MINE!) Oh how I plotted their demise.
Yea, you only need to visit a mailbox to send and receive attachments. You should be able to compose and read normal mail anyplace simply by using the toolbar.

A Youtuber had reviewed one of my quests and sent me a message regarding it.
After typing a response (just text, no attachments), I got this same thing.
Had to retype the entire message after moving a step closer to the mailbox.
Funny thing is I opened the mailbox to read the message in the first place.
