Hello fellow GWF's,
After reading a few guides, i found out some people prefer wicked strike over WMS on a Sword-master build. I researched a bit about what makes those skills different, but after some experimentation i can't understand why many GWF's take wicked over WMS.
From my experience, Wicked strike is slightly faster, has a wider angle (290) and the third strike hits harder and reduces enemies damage output.
WMS is a bit slower, hits twice (both hits do around 1.6 times wicked strike damage) has shorter angle (250) but triggers feat debuffs faster, plus it reduces at will and encounter damage resistance.
Also WMS animation lets me disengage faster, sometimes Wicked Strike will make me walk forward and its not as smooth as WMS.
Both trigger around the same bleed damage from Gash.
My understanding is that WMS is better.
I must be missing something, can someone please explain why do you take Wicked Strike over WMS? im a bit confused.
I'm with you OP, I use WMS all the time due to the better animation (faster disengagement as you mentioned) and also being lazy to switch out At-Wills between boss and add battles (which is irrelevant but still )
I think Wicked Strike is chosen over (or with for faster add waves clearing) Weapon Master's Strike because during Unstoppable, WS is a much bigger AoE bomb compared to WMS since WS somehow has a continuous attack animation sequence.
For trash u use them both wms+ws, for bosses you;ll switch ws with ss.
+1
Not sure where you got the impression that GWF/SM don't use WMS, OP. But I'd expect most GWFs to use the setup ortzhy mentioned. I've seen GWFs mention that you would use one strike of WMS followed by three strikes of WS. The WS strikes begin just when the second hit of WMS casts. I'd expect that this allows you to get the optimum amount of debuffs on mobs as well as damage. This setup is truly a beast when cast in Unstoppable mode.
However, for single targets it is advisable to switch WS for Sure strike, something I am sometimes too lazy to do .
As Iron Vanguard I would be more interested in a Sure Strike vs Threating Rush thread.
Although I haven't played IV beyond the preview shard, I'd assume you would use Threatening rush to mark and kite adds, while SS would be used for single targets such as bosses. So pretty much, this would depend on your role as GWF in party.

SS is better single target dmg than TR san animation cancel. The dmg buff from marks is nice but there are other sources of marks, notably IBS kill mark.
I use TR as a gap closer on single target fights (Valindra, Fulminorax being the only 2 left in game). good for either caskets or getting back on boss from wing buffet knockbacks. And of course in pvp. but otherwise in PVE TR isn't on my bar.

I didn't say GWFs don't use WMS, i just saw a few guides suggesting WS over WMS.
So i take it WS is higher instant DPS over WMS but how much is it? And is it truly better overall?
I would really appreciate if someone on the PTS could test then both, as i strongly believe WMS is better, if not equal DPS to WS, of course i can be wrong.
I've been using the Avatar of War sword 875-875 to try to measure the overall DPS in 10 seconds, but on live it's very difficult to have the same circumstances for both skills.
Plus i don't have a stop watch

others will disagree that's fine.
