About the new lockbox: no epic pet?

diogene0diogene0 Member Posts: 2,894 Arc User
I was waiting for the new lockbox to see what pet the devs had in store for us. Unfortunately, there's an artifact instead. Well, too bad, I don't need another pvp oriented artifact - I have one on my two main characters and don't need more.

I'm not really the kind of guy who enjoys gambling, but I always gladly buy pets from people who actually opened boxes on the AH - which makes everyone happy I guess. Well, this lockbox lost me. I won't get anything dropping from this one.

I lost like 1m AD on opening boxes (spent 2m AD).
No mount, no artifact just a useless epic alchemist worker and 24 green ones.

    Didnt even reach 500 bars.

Lockboxes working as intended. Generating revenue with the lure of .0001 percent chance drop of mounts and artifacts.

I know that feel. Each time I gamble I feel left disappointed. So glad that I've only gambled my real money once.

It would be nice if they would actually advertise the chance of it to save buyers remorse and lessen the feel of being roofied and having your keys stolen. After these lockbox shenanigans i don't think i can being myself to spend money on keys, maybe if there was a decent pack with an expac sure, but at the moment it's gettng a bit ridiculous.

I'm sure the ah prices would rise then. Although I agree that it seems to be such a waste if you do. Some do manage to win out of course, but when you can spend so much and barely get anything to show for it...

I can safely bet that in a week or two you will be able to buy both the artifact and the mount on AH with that spare 1mil :P

They're lotto tickets, a total gamble. The part that always feels wrong is that it feels just the same as buying a lotto ticket yet I think according to the tos the age to play this game is 13. Yeah a 13 year old won't have a credit card to buy zen to buy keys but it feels very much like a grey area considering you need to be 18 to buy a lotto ticket.

It's the same deal in every game. The chances of getting something of real value from these boxes, let alone the thing you have your heart set on are exceedingly low. Even if the exact odds were available it wouldn't change a thing. As long as people believe in luck, they will always trick themselves into believing they have a better shot at winning than they actually do. That's why lottery tickets sell so well. That's why casinos are so popular. It's just human nature to believe your luck is different, just as it's human nature to complain about it not working out in your favor afterwards.

Not entirely true. I think degraafination, the author of Trace's Guide to AD Creation and Wealth Building (http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?567591-Trace-s-Guide-to-AD-Creation-and-Wealth-Building) found that it has money making potential provided that you get in early and know that the possible rare drops are going to be desirable.

Of course I doubt the majority of people buying lockboxes take such a studied approach to the situation.

Yes, and it makes me rage every time I see " so and so has aquired a Thayan Book of the Dead" after I just finished wasting all of my keys to get a stupid alchemy pack x 5, Thayan relics, and a couple of planar idols.

Planar idols just complete the circle. AD -> Zen -> Key -> Planar Idol -> AD

Ok, sing with me. "It's the circle of suck. Yes they've found a way, to take all your time away...." :)

actually, the ToS states that you have to be at least 13 with your parents consent to play.
If you are 13 or over, but are under the age of 18, we require that you review these Terms with your parents or guardian to ensure they read and agree to them.

the ToS is a legal agreement and a minor cannot enter into such an agreement. so the agreement then is with the parent/guardian. all games that are similarly rated have some such clause like that.

This is simply bugged I believe in random rolls and the chance of getting something is extremely low, but......... I now have 10 alchemists and that's not counting the 6 alchemy kits I have not yet opened. I would not mind if the profession kits were random but over 50 percent of my lockbox opens are alchemy kits and only alchemy kits. Look at the AH and you will only see alchemy kits which tells me that's all these lock boxes are dropping.

As keys are directly associated with money to purchase, it boarders on fraud that they are not addressing this lockbox bug or at least telling people, that if its a profession kit you get it will only be an alchemy kit.
