I have a level 60 TR with 14.9 GS, I have finished the Sharadar Campaign Boons plus only 2 more days to finish Dread Ring, so I decided to try out some PVP. Usually I stay away from any kind of PVP like the plague but decided to give it a try. I am enjoying the 5 persons Arena matches and have done about 15 so far. I am not looking to dominate or win at all costs. Just want to have some fun....
But I find myself always stunned with my skills locked, now this happens often in PVE and so far I understand it is part of the game and the mobs reaction to beat me. No problem with that.
But in PVP, again I understand the mechanics, what I am asking is there a way to defend myself from being locked out of the skills, is there something I should be equipping, a buff I should be using etc.....Again it is part of the game and I get that, just wondering if this is just the way it is or can I defend myself at least just a little?
BTW: I am not Guilded, hence why I am asking here.
You may want to use Impossible to Catch as it will allow you to escape CC effects even while your skills are locked, stunned, dazed, etc. Except for Prone. When you are CC-ed, you'll notice that Impossible to Catch's icon is still red despite it having chains around it. This means you can use it to break from the CC and have 5 seconds of CC immunity. PVP right now is centered on CC. Once you're CC-ed, you are more often than not dead. And this is the main reason why TR's and GWF's are able to dominate in PVP; because they have abilities to negate CC or at least escape them.
For us TR's, it's Stealth and ITC.

Alright Thanks, that is a skill I have never ever used or even equipped on my KB tray and I have been playing since the second month of launch....LOL!
Come to think of it, I have never used smoke bombs either, just came to choice and whatever worked for me I guess........hehe!
In my case, since I use a Whisperknife build, I don't have a "get out of jail free" card, so to speak.
So in my case I try to plan most of my moves ahead, including an exit strategy, taking precautions to maintain at least 1 dodge worth of stamina, and carefully timing engagements so I get Shadow Strike when I need it. However, even as it were, it is still impossible to evade ALL CCs incoming, so the rest of the instances it becomes a calculated risk.
Take a look around the fight and see how many (for example) CWs or HRs are facing a certain direction, which means attacking the rearmost target behind their line of sight will give you some amount of time until they react -- a much longer time if they are target fixated on someone else.
Also, it pays to try and see just how powerful the CC using opponents are, which for example if they don't do too much of a damage you have a little more spare time to simply endure the CC and close in and start bashing. A relatively much easier task for a Whisperknife than Master Infiltrator.
In the end, the only reliable way is not a single skill, but just pure experience. Try to come up with counter strategies and don't be afraid to "look gimpy" while experimenting. Sometimes those experiments are total flops, other times it yields great results!
Stop making excuses. Be a man. If you know something to be broken, stop using it. Otherwise, you've got no right to be speaking of 'balance.'
I just started playing again after a while and went for PvP for the Artifact, and i can tell you that if you get caught offguard ( screw those Gf and GWF who knock you down from Range and you never ever stand up again ( while knocked down no ITC is possible to cast ) ) your most likely dead so you need overall good reflexes and map awarness.
Im PvE skilled with Swashbuckling, but i managed to outsmart most Enemys, except those PvP Freaks with full PvP Sets and 16k+ GS most likely GWFs who are Tanky like... you just can't kill them... , same as some Clerics.... , but only in 1 - 2 / 10 Games such Guys are in the game. It's quite simple to kill 1 Enemy in an Instant, all you need is something to lock him don so you can place you Slashing Blade without worrying about Enemy to Shift and some Raw Damage.
For me it worked out most Matches with Shadowshot, Lashing Blade and Impact Shot. Spot your Victim, go near him in Stealth place your Shadowshot, thn he will be stunned and your Stealth is reworked, now go in and place your Lashing Blade and then your Impactshots, most likely this will 1 Hit anyone even Normal GWFs since they cant use their Tab.
If you got trouble with many Cw or Knock down focused GWF / GF just replace Shadowshot with ITC and put in Duellist Flurry, but most of the Time you wont need it if you play Cautious and dont play like Rambo.
Best Strategy is to go for Enemy Spot and capture it, most likely only One Enemy will come because rest of your / Enemy Team fight at Neutral Spot and you can lock him down 1v1 most of the Times and as soon as he's back from Death your Combo will be ready again.
Many Meeles = Smoke Bomb is also quite overhelming.
I am not 100% sure, just followed some tips and tricks here on these Forums (A build I found here a while back), plus worked my but off upgrading all my enchants etc...I have basically soloed through this game about 98% of the time. There are many 5 man dungeons I have not done though. Just a few hours about 5 days a wekk is all I play and more so on Weekends.
Now this is my first attempt at a ingame screenshot, please by all means if it is not clear or visible let me know. I am a little proud of myself if the screenshot does work on these boards.
And to all of you with the PVP tips thanks a bunch, I sure will be using some of those.
It's rather easy after the introduce of the Artifacts, since each Artifact gives atleast 600 Gearscore, this means u can get + 1.8k Gearscore. In addition new Passive from Companions also increase your Gearscore.
Before Shadowmantle a 14k Tr was most likely best Gearscore possible, but now its around ~17k.
But seriously, Gearscore dont man much, since atm i have 14.4k Gearscore with full Swash and a Blue Belt and Rank 7 Enchantments ( 2 Artifacts level 60 - 65 ) , but i could easily add up the 450 Gearscore for changing my Set to 2 x 2 Parts + buying a Defensive Belt + use Belts, necklace, Rings with much random Stats e.g. cause of this Gearscore dont mean your better / weaker if its an difference between approximately 1k or less.
I had a look on a 17k Gearscore Rogue and i had more Power ( i have 6k he had 5.2 ) i have more Crit ( i have 3.8 he had 3.4 ) we had same Armor Pen, same Recovery, but he had more Regenration ( which is useless... ) 1k more Deflect ( ~3% more Chance to Deflect ) and a bit more Def ( ~ 6% more Resistenz ).
And he had 2 x 2 Parts, if i remmeber right it was 2 Swash and 2 from Sharander, so all in all we had same Offensive ( we would do equal Damage or i would may even deal more ) but he had a greater Def whihc is ImaO as Rogue something trivial, cause normallyyou wont get hit and if you have ya Soulforged, but normally you wont get hit in Bossfights.
Lol, I love people who think like that they'e the easiest kills you'll get.
Easiest Kills, nah, try to do something when your stunned from SS and then get a 20k Lashing Blade and additional 10k from Steel Tempest + 7k x 3 from each Impact Shot. ( And a delightfull 30 - 40k Shocking Execution if you still dare to be alive)
Well im not playing PvP at all, i just did it for the Artifact a bit and i was doing totally fine without Regeneration, but well its not bad if you do PvP only but well idc about PvP Builds that much.
In PvE Regeneration is uselss same goes for stacking Def on an DPS Character, since Lifesteal is your main Sustain source.
