The Dread Protectors in the Dread Ring are they from the Goliath race? It would be cool if they introduce the Goliaths and Dragonborn race. The Dragonborn race would be a good choice for next Mod since the Thayans are digging up ancient dragons and disturbing their burial ground.

I haven't looked at them that closely but I assumed they were magically imbued humans.

I thought they were undead given that Wilfred is a Dread Protector.

However, they don't count for the "Kill undead in Dread Ring" quest

I had always assumed that we were dealing with a Melee version of the 'Dread Necromancer' class, basically a 'Dread GWF' for purposes of this game. According to AD&D lore these critters are in the process of becoming true Undead, but are not Undead YET. Or, if you will they are only "Mostly Undead". As for their size, NPC Orks and Half-Orks are often portrayed as larger than the PC ones. For instance Jawbone is listed as a Half-Ork. I had assumed we were dealing with either particularly large Half-Orks, Half-Ogres, or Magically Altered Humans.
    Link to the Class Here:

Dread Protectors are from the D&D 4E Monster Manual 3, page 74 as part of the Dread Warriors entry (along with Dread Guardian, Dread Archer, etc). They are medium creatures with a greataxe made as body guards by necromancers. Obviously Cryptic beefed them up just a tad, but they fill the same role. I don't think they are goliaths or anything fancy, just massive corpses.

I figured they were probably undead ogres/half-ogres.

Actually I believe they are death titans/giants. They look alot like the minis from the DnD miniatures game.
This forum set up is absolutely horrible, I cant even figure out how to get my knight of the feywild title.
