Master of the Flame question

So I've been considering to roll a Master of the Flame and was wondering which skill tree should I spec into and what encounters so I max? I would consider that Master of the Flame benefits most from the Renegade tree spec since it haves some skills that would better leans toward crits like critical configuration which adds smolders whenever you crit with any arcane or chill skills.

It depend on play style :
Did you plan on using Scorching Burst or not?
Did you want to apply Smolder with crit or with fire spell ?

I haven't really found an answer myself.

Good questions, I wasn't really looking at it that ways just thought it would benefit more form Renegade spec, since it seems to increase crit severity quite a lot base on it's class feature skills. I did notice that the smolder affect does benefit more from chills encounter since it refresh it, but idk how that work. I was leaning towards a crit build with high crit severity and using magic missile and maybe a point into scorching burst to help add smolders.

I crit fairly often with my CW. I use the oppressor spec as I chill everything. As you said, chill refreshes and if I am always using chill, it is always refreshed. I haven't done extensive testing with it yet. I currently use critical and swath. So not only does any crit cause the burn, but it also burns harder, longer and makes the targets weaker for my team.

I run Master of Flame/Thaumaturge. I find it super enjoyable :D

I've noticed that while I don't kill trash as much as a stormspell, I dug into ACT and it looks like it's the best spec for dracoslaying.

That said, feel free to send me a message. I would be glad to discuss spec and gear.

1st to be fire mage u need to stack crt to 3k and put points into cha or u will feel really behind in dmg because of not having eye of the storm passive. both trees are good and pretty equal in dps, 15% crt when u got combat adv and buffs from magic missle vs -def/dot and -15% mitigation. that are core feats from both trees. Choose what u like more. Opressor is mile behind in dps. u can freeze everything just with conduit of ice on tab + icy terrain as any spec.

Oppressor adds a lot more damage while stuff is frozen.

Oppressor is about control, it's not just deeps! that most things aim for. MoF adds to that control with a constant DoT that is refreshed by the control factor of chilling stuff. They compliment each other rather well, imho. :)
