Which companions did you pick for their Active Bonus for your ranger and why?
If money/luck wasn't an issue, which ones would you choose?

Also make a note of your specialization (Archer, Combat, Nature)

Can't go wrong with Ioun Stone of Allure but it's so boring.

Active Bonus: On Encounter Use 7% chance to slow target. I don't know if that's right but seems useful as an archer.

    I will be running;
    Cleric Companion (+25 Regen)
    Fawn
    Mimic
    Wererat Thief
    Cat

If money was no issue I'd have the HR pack Hawk in there instead of the cleric.
    Obsidian Moonlight - Paladin
    Obsidian Oath - Warlock
A whole lot of other Obsidian toons as well.

Why did you pick stat boosters for Active Bonus as opposed to % damage or other kind of utility boosters?

Blink dog epic 5% more combat advantage damage, goes good with pack passive. BiS if you run pack.
I think lightfoot thief's active bonus could be very powerful. I read it does 1k damage to crfitted targets over 10 second, applied every 2 seconds. When you crit an affected mob, it will reapply, in effect making every crit do 200 more damage.
And of the augment pets, I think either cat or stone of might. Cat if you farm draco a lot. I don't really like ioun stone's effect.

Hm why Ioun Stone of Might for HR? I thought HRs were capped out on Arpen anyway from equipment?

Because it's either 5% more stamina regeneration or 200 deflect+50% less fall damage. I personally prefer cat since I do a lot of draco.

    stone of might :
stone of allure : chance to slow
    will o wisp: control bonus
    cantarous mage: control bonus

switching stone of might for other pet when i find a suitable replacement, any thoughts, im thinking the lightfoot thief when i get him

    Currently using
Hunting Hawk: bonus damage comes with range, good for dungeons I suppose
    Hawk: Armor Pen-Crit
Wild Hunt Rider: my encounters have a chance to increase my damage by 10%
I use the wererat thief n stone of allure but not sure about those for dungeons.

I gotta check that dire wolf tho seems nice.

Total cost of companions I use $0, and only the cat has an AD cost (ok technically the Wererat probably costs about 30K AD lost in Salvaging).

They also all boost "off" stats. An extra hundred Recovery or Defense here and there doesn't go astray.
    Obsidian Moonlight - Paladin
    Obsidian Oath - Warlock

Some of the plain stat boosts are comparable or better than most of the special active bonuses if you have not reached softcaps yet. Let's say you have only 1500 defense, an epic man at arms gives 300 defense, or about 3% less damage taken. What special bonus can compare with that?

Im thinking about companions more in terms of RP than pure stats :) And also in mater of their usefulness for PVE player. For my GF toon i have chosen striker as im "turtle tank", dont have problems with holding aggro but extra dps (even so tiny as from companion) is useful. Cleric got tank companion to keep some mobs off from her, Hunter Ranger - as "distance and squishy striker" got tanker as well, etc. As till now such synergy works very good for all my toons. Of course stone is still "best choice" statswise but as someone already mentioned.. its just boring if someone is looking in this game something more than just stats maximalisation.

    Hawk for ranged bonus.
    Dire Wolf for the interrupt.
Stone for the augment, although the slow isn't bad when it procs.
Sylph for the control resist (could go with a Will o' Wisp here also)
fifth depends on what you have and want, lots of decent options here - many more if you upgrade companions to epic. Blue skeletal dog is nice, as is the blink dog in any level.
The right to command is earned through duty, the privilege of rank is service.

Companions are as follows: Fire Archon (bonus damage when target is below 35 percent health), Dire Wolf (interrupt chance), Ioun stone of might (stamina bonus), Galeb Dur (up to 10 percent bonus damage), Rust Monster (debuff chance on target). Later I will most likely change out the Dire wolf for Dancing Blade. I do like the rust monster. When I ran with the melee build it helped on Boss fights certainly. One thing I have noticed, no matter how you slice it. The Melee seems to be a stronger build for pvp and solo. The ranged is definitely the superior class for Dungeons and Skirmishes.

    Cheers and Happy New Year,

I don't know the stats of the mimic, but I've seen it listed a lot in above posts - makes me curious!

    I'm a pure ranged spec.

    What I currently have:

    Sylph (50% control resist)
Stone of Might (for the stats, yo, but the passive is nice too)
Blue skeletal dog (190 points of lifesteal)
hunting hawk (more damage at ranged)
maxed out tiefling cleric (the one shown here, if you haven't seen it: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?404401-New-companion-tiefling-cleric) - similar to the purchasable cleric.

A few notes on the above: I have over 1000 lifesteal and with the cleric in instances, I am getting over 800k in healing per T2 run (spellplague, karrandax, etc). I typically run with my cleric out, since I haven't finished leveling my stone yet. My DPS is just fine, even w/out a full set of gear as well. I will miss my skeletal dog or cleric though, when I do finally slot the stone all the time. :( I also run with guildies, so I don't have to worry about verious PUG types badgering me about using a companion you can actually see or not having my stone available yet. :)

If they hadn't changed the **** sale at the last minute, I'd have gotten the acolyte of Kelemvor. That type of lifesteal added as an effect on my already massive self heals? omg.

Assuming my damage goes up considerably with a decked out stone and my life expectency stays the same, my cleric will be going back on the shelf, except for soloing...
