What is a good way to spend astral diamonds?

Hi all, I got 1 million astral diamonds off the nvidia promo, and I'm relatively new to this game. I was wondering what the best way to go about spending diamons would be, or should I just convert it all to zen?

I'd convert them to ZEN and buy an Epic Mount of my preference with that amount of AD's. If you haven't bought an Epic Tier Mount yet (purple rank mounts), I believe it'll be a good investment. Once you buy a purple mount in one of your characters, all the characters in your account will be able to access the said mount by buying them again in the ZEN Market on the character of your choice. Only next time you buy them, the price will say "Free" and it'll automatically add it in your inventory. Having a fast mount will be useful for many things, like traversing quest zones much faster, and even for faster mobility in PVP.

It depends. Me I'd transfer the AD to Zen then pick up a mount or a companion.

My first choice would be to pick up a companion. Ioun stone of Allure is a cheap augment. Augment companions don't fight for you, instead they give you their stats to make you stronger instead. Many players consider augments to be the best summoned companions.

Second would be to get a fast mount. Zen shop sells a large variety. But in the long run you'd want a fast one. The upgrade costs for the slower ones are very prohibitive.

If you already have an augment and mount. Then you could pick up another companion for its active slot bonus. Or save the AD to spend on max level gear/enchants.

    My priority list would be
-- a couple bags for my main
-- an ioun stone of allure for my main
-- an epic mount from zen store
-- saving the rest for buying wards, enchantments, etc from the ah at cap as you need them.

Hmm, so a stone or a mount seems to be the best bet, tough choice. Thanks all.

I'd hold on to them until you get to lvl 60.

Yeah, you bring up a good point. That might be wise as well.

They'd certainly help you earlier. But several times I've bought a companion for a character then later decided to scrap the whole concept I based the character on. Companions bind to the character. So the character would wind up as a leadership mule with a fancy companion it didn't need.

As others have said, a 110% speed mount is awesome....do try to get it when it's on a zen sale, that will save you some money. Zen mounts are available to all your characters once purchased, so it is a wise investment if you plan on leveling more than one (wise even for one, trust me, 110% speed makes a HUGE difference).

Also, the 24 slot bags are GREAT. I think the sale on them will be over when the server comes back up, but prices should be down in the AH for at least the next day or so as inventory is still high. The best part about the bags is the DONT BIND!!! so, if you have multiple characters, just mail the bags to whatever character you are playing at the time.

Companions are good too, however, remember, they are one character use only. So spend wisely.

Agree about the mount. It's something you'll want sooner or later. The only other things I would recommend is ancient mulhorand weapon/offhand for your toon off the auction house, an augment pet like ioun stone of allure or cat, or sub 10K AD random level 60 purple quality gear for your character if he is already level 60. Whatever you do, don't buy those overpriced t2 set armor pieces from the auction house. Use pvp glory armor or gauntlgrym coin armor, they are pretty much free, don't require much skill to get, just some time. In fact the tier 2 gauntlgrym gear may be faster to grind than t1 pvp glory gear if you keep losing in pvp, and both are much easier to get than the other tier set armors.

It' really comes down to whether you're a PVE'er or a PVP'er mostly. If you're fond of PVP'ing I'd say the Mount is the top priority by miles, but if you like PVE world better, then go with stuff that will help you out like a Companion or a Bag if you reaaaly want the bag (I wouldnt recommend it though) I got some Bags now though but im in my second account and 4th and 5th character who only got the Bags bcuz of the sale and for the trolololz, otherwise you dont really need em at all.

Once you have the bags and mount and companions then, buying keys to open the (rust monster) lockboxes is a great way of spending your AD. Its random but there alot of good stuff in there.
    - trade bars to but coalation wards with.
    - marks of potency to upgrade your runes.
    - leadership packs to get more crafters to speed up your AD money makers.
    - of course the high demand mounts and companions you can resell on the AH or use.

The chances that your very first character is the one that you will end up playing the most is not that high, so I would avoid buying expensive items (r.g. companions) that can only be used on that character.

Consider instead items that will either be available for all future characters also (such as ZEN mounts) or transferable (such as bags), both of which are great quality of life improvements. Of course wait for a sale if you can as these happen fairly often.

Also note that if you really like the game, purchasing a Guardian pack ($60) is great value if you haven't got a ZEN mount already, as you get a Tier 3 Mount for all characters, a Dire Wolf companion (which gives a great passive benefit) for all characters, and 600K AD (about 1500 ZEN).

Convert them to Zen and buy an ACCOUNT WIDE Epic Mount so any toon you play will have an epic mount. Various mounts go on sale often.

Then buy Greater bags of holding. Note that these bags aren't bound to any specific toon you put them on so can be traded(empty only) to other toons when if needed. 2 bags are good.

Companions are nice, but mostly novelty items.

Keys are random luck items. Spend with your spare AD after you get your needed things as mount and bags.

What I did with my zen was
First, buy a purple mount. I saw one for sale and bought that.
Second, I bought extra character slot. 2 for 500zen isn't too bad.
Both of these are account based and not character specific.

Lastly I bought a Fashion outfit for my Drow Rogue.

I value stuff that is account wide so mount and character slots is a fine investment. I'm not a fan of the amount companions cost. Especially since they are bound to a character.

One thing to consider would be the assorted Packs. If you like the game enough to be playing for a while then the Knight Of The Feywild will get your your account wide Purple Mount, and account wide Purple Companion, and some other goodies. The Ranger Booster Pack is a great deal for a Hunter Ranger and would get you some nice account wide goodies as well. Just depends on your gaming budget.

I would advise you to not spend your AD on anything just yet. Wait a little and get to level 60, see what your priorities are, learn how the game works. Everybody is giving ideas, and I am not saying they are necessarily bad, but wait for a bit and make your own ideas. Till about level 60 you will hardy ever need to use AD or zen.
A Stone of Allure is a good idea, an epic mount and bags are too. I would add some character slots to the list, but you're likely to focus a lot on you first character for a while, but consider it in the future. You will see it has a lot of benefits.

The mount unlocks for all characters on the account. This includes any future characters you create, so even if you scrap your current character, you still have the mount for all new ones.

    Bags are transferable.

These two are the safest long term purchases.
