There's been a semi-official statement in an interview that Mod 3 will have PVP updates. They're coming out with something. I realize it's 3 months, well, 2 months now? Either way, something IS coming. Patience just has to be had.. and try to reduce the gloom and doom posts.
not that your post is doom and gloom.. just inb4 'omg pvp ruined my game' posts. >.>

I'm excited....and nervous that Cryptic will make the same mistakes as other MMO makers and introduce a PvP specific stat that distances PvE from PvP which would IMO be a real shame.
I love that fact that you can get viable gear from PvP and PvE and it all adds to the mix.
pvp open area? that would be great ...but its not that easy...
i hope for 2v2 and 1v1 arena which is easy
if they dont release it they will lose many players to other pvp oreiented games
and i have to say that neverwinter is a very nice game with many features that i like so its one step from perfect...more pvp
i don't know about an open pvp area, but i'm actually looking forward to see what they come up with.

As long as any open world PvP areas are completely optional, it's fine.
I played in PvP WoW server and it is as dumb as it gets when it is compulsory, because you need to level up/farm in those areas, and there are countless gankers. It was extremely not fun to always stay in PvP gear and on my toes while farming, no relaxation. So in the end I switched to PvE realm and it was awesome.
Ironically, I started on a PVE realm in WoW with my family. I quickly got bored.
I moved to a PVP realm with some friends and I had more fun on there, having to be aware of surroundings while still fighting mobs. I remember countless fights in the highlands that escalated into massive fights. I remember alliance people trying to hunt my horde mage and I'd just include them into the AoE cycle with the mobs to get honor + experience. It was a lot of fun.
however, I completely agree that open world PVP needs to be optional. There are plenty of people that don't like to PVP and making it a requirement will cause them frustration.
I'd like to see some form of PvP, maybe certain instances being PvP and others being PvE. PvP is the glue that holds MMOs together after you finish all the storyline and after a week at level 60 the storyline kinda wavers off...
PvP is the hammer that breaks mmo's apart, raiding is the glue that holds mmo's together.
Raiding isn't very fun. Trying to coordinate even more people together in one area with mobs that take forever to kill because the minions have a million HPs, less alone the bosses..
Could I ask if you would give me some examples about how PVP has broken other MMOs? You say you've seen it happen in MMOs that have PVP which breaks it all down to generic attack a,b,c. I'd like to know which ones?
They just need to adjust the skills for pvp and pve respectively. An mmorpg I previously played had the skills, when you placed your mouse cursor on it and scrolled the wheel it would display the stats for pvp and for pve.
mod note: everyone is allowed their opinion, so there is no need to try to prove someone's opinion wrong. pvp is a part of neverwinter no matter how big or small the focus and i doubt it's going anywhere. if you do not like pvp, there is nothing wrong with that, but know that continually attacking any and all opposing or differing opinions is considered trolling and isn't allowed.
let's please have some respect for each other and our opinions. thanks.

I would love for there to be an Open world PvP zone.
My brother and I were talking about this last night and he brought up, "What is they made it faction base, like Gaunt. Delzoun Vs Luskan." My concern for that however would be the sheer numbers Delzoun has over Luskan, but part of me wonders if some of the biggest (more focused) PvP centric guilds would then switch factions to give themselves more people to fight. Of it they will just sit on the easy mode wins like we see in Gaunt every day.
Besides that I would love to get a few extra Domination maps, and a Dueling feature. (One not allowed in Protector's Enclave.)
I think there should be multiple factions. There usually are in D&D. The faction selection should be on a player level choice, instead of a guild level choice. That would allow a more balanced setup. That'd also allow potential spying.. but if you built that into the system, then I say let it go.
I agree that dueling should be allowed and not in PE. Trade of Blades being the only exception. Otherwise, make an actual arena map that is instanced like PE and allows an NPC controlled sign up to get cycled into duels. So you can either sign up on same team to set up 2v2, etc, or sign in as a solo to allow interactions with people you may not know.
In the end, I just look forward to what the devs are gonna come out with. Considering they've officially (or at least semi-officially) said that PVP is their next point to touch, it should be an exciting time for PVPers.
MMOs are built around BOTH pve and pvp. The most successful MMO game in history (we all know so i wont name it) had BOTH pvp and PVE.
Its two sides of the same sword. I also think it a little naive to think that without pvp PVE would be "fair" or "balanced"
You claim they buffed GWFs tankiness to tank PVE, if so, why didnt they give a real way of holding agro? Why did they nerf AS stacking?
Its silly to think that a PVE only game would fair better than a PVP one... People are all wired different ways, to say "mine is the best way" seems really silly to me.
Some players say, "why would I farm gear, to farm gear faster. Makes no sense. I want to farm gear to go beat other players"
Others say "Why would I spend literally DAYS in dungeons just to be able to say I beat some other person ill never meet or see again"|
Whats funny is even the most die hard PVE-ers I know, it ends up being a somewhat PVP type drive for them. They want the "fastest kill times" on bosses. Why is that?
So people like both aspects. PVE and PVP compliment eachother very well, They both highlight different aspects of classes and sometimes you get crossover, like the Lurkers nerf drastically affecting PVE.
The thing I never get is when people blame others for an obviously needed fix. This game has been OVER 90% PVE focused with almost nothing spent on PVP, so its pretty much as close to PVE focused as you can get, and look at the decrease in player base.
If you were to ask the thousands and quite possibly millions of players that have quit this game in the last 6-8 months, a LARGE majority of them would say it was because of lack of PVP content. Alot of those same player would also say it was PVE content that was lacking however the pvp aspect is still a major role.
The "fix" for pvp is actually quite easy (a matchmaking system and some type of rankings) and pvp content takes actually very little "resources" from a DEV team but adds ALOT of endgame to play.
I am excited to see what they come out with as this will be very key update. If they dont bring alot to the table, I hate to say it, but it may be the final straw for alot of players.
Would be fun if there was an area for open PVP.
Like a copy of the tower district, black lake district ect.were we can have open PVP.
We really need an big open area for PVP.
what do ya think?
Oh and to address this, this is a VERY simple fix as well.
Add a few "instances" in ALL the world instances that are open to PVP.
So when you load into an instance #, and you open the map and can swap to others, let there be a few "pvp" versions of that map where world pvp in enabled.
This lets people set up 1v1s/2v2s etc and even gives a nice PVP aspect to leveling up... World PVP.
They also need to add flat more pvp content, but that seems like a fairly easy thing to do and opens up alot of options...
