I decided to level a CW. Probably a bad move I only played one class really. Anyway I ran into 2 TR's in PVP that where completely resistant to all forms of control. All match control did not touch them. One even stood IN my Ice Storm daily three times in one match steadily attacking me without being knocked off of me. The other one it only happened once to him I never got a chance to try again.
Both TR's where immune to repel. I hit them with repel and it was like hitting them with a wet paper bag. Anything that did any type of control they where completely immune to. Even Entangling they where immune to. I know they went on off the TR's because it put them spells on cooldown.
Did I miss a patch note or did these crafty buggers find a loophole?
I should mention that this is in the Thirties brackets.

The ability is called Impossible to Catch (ITC). If you see the TR going black and smoky, it's smart to not waste any encounters on it until they go back to normal.
Expect TRs to be a primary pain in your bottoms for the remaining of your CW PvP experience

Your new to the game I suggest getting educated on other classes before you do end game PvP. What your seeing is nothing special it's an encounter almost all TR's use called impossible to catch it makes them dodge all attacks for 4 seconds. They will turn as shadow purple color when in this mode that is a que to kite them while it's active. They take highly reduce damage while in this mode and it does have a lengthy cooldown. It's to counter mages that CC all day long. However if a TR is prone the cannot activate this. I use it all the time on wizard encounters like ice storm or steal time. Here's two suggestions get rid of ice storm not very good most good tr's will definite dodge this and ice knife because of the casting time and easy tells they have. Oppressive I find works very good on TR's especially when stealthed so I use oppressive and ice knife for PVP. If you wanted to get better at pvp hang around the other class forums and read builds so you can be ready for them when they come and how to deal with them. Good luck pvping

Yeah you got it.. As the guy above said tr's will start to be bother some especially the end game geared one that one shot you out of no where. I'll be posting my cw build soon as I respec but if you want to pvp with a cw stack life regen defense and deflect as much as you can. I play with some tr's that crit on average vs a cw 25k. I have 30k life and a good amount of regen and I hunt for most tr's however the really good ones can and will blow me away if I don't kite them out. They are the cw's kryptonite. But there are a lot of post of cw posting about getting wrecked in pvp from tr's and gwf's. Cw are really strong in early level with the cc and no one can counter or have proper builds yet but they will catch you. And gwf well they are the top of the mountain right now. Also ice knife very situation definitely can one shot but you have to catch people off guard or prone it makes a noise that everyone hears a ting ting and that just says dodge.

OMG 25k Crit. Bajeebers. On my GWF I use to get crit on for about 10k but really that was a drop in the bucket on my health pool. Those who can hit for that amount it was few and far between I only pugged (as a GWF I destroyed pugs sometimes about 30 matches a day) because am mute so do not like to feel like I am gimping a pro team because of not able to communicate like others and coordinate. So end game pvp other then pugs is kinda outta the question. I will most likely only level via PVP on my CW. Or may end up deleting it either way. Hard to say.
I would really like to see that build. Right now I am doing a fire and ice type of thing as I always loved fire wizards. They have soo many options and can really heat things up. King of DPS not sure how that translates into NWO and wanting to see if it is as good as other DnD titles. However it seems to me that the term control in wizard is not correct as fire is never meant to control opponents it is meant to destroy them.

Tr's won't crit a gwf that much but they will do it to cw, hr, and other tr's. They hit extremely hard especially if they have a shocking execution waiting. You haven't seen this daily yet but if your at half health it's a sure bet one shot. Tr's use it to kill gwf's that are tanky because the damage increases with life missing. This skills can not be dodged so its a real pain once you start fighting level 60 tr's. Now cw are a mixture of two elements electricity and ice or fire and ice. Fire and electricity do a lot of the damage. While the control really comes from ice spells. In pve if you slot icy terrain and conduit on tab or chill strike on tab mobs will just stop in their tracks or barely move this giving you the control. Some wizards are really good at this by specing oppressor and using all ice spells and the at will its like perma cc freeze. If you only want to pvp it might be a build to look into.

Ohhhh yes I know about Shocking execution. (on my GWF) I seem to get in pugs from time to time with TR's that LOVE to chain there dailies on me. While we are talking about Ray I put that on tab I am now level 39 (YEA) and I put Ray on tab I debuff twice and then hit Chill and Fanning usually they are dead or close to it. Good gravy where has this spell been all my life. I absolutely adore that spell and hitting it Twice ohhhhhhh. I can not wait for Ice Knife I am sooo excited one more level and I will be able to go shhhh shhh (Ray x2) Then clap my hands and watch them fall down. Then look at em say man that musta hurt.

The 25K crits come with Lashing Blade, which is rather easy to avoid (after a while of getting used to it) and more importantly, nobody uses it on premades. The more dangerous ability is Impact Shot which will crit in 10-14K range and can be chained on you, although I've been hit once for 19K with it :P
You have the option to build the CW like a tank, with big HP, regen and defense and deflect, if you want to PvP more efficiently. You will still deal enough damage if you manage to get good gear, and outlast other high damage annoyances such as most CWs, TRs and HRs.
Okay, a few points. It's not "just" ITC. Duelists flurry, the third hit which is really flashy and a lot of quick hits also makes them immune to cc. ITC was mentioned and yes they will be black and immune during this. Most pvp players also run halfling these days for the control resist. Halfling gets 10% control resist as a racial then whatever the TR gets from wisdom but likely 3-5% extra control resist. So even out of flurry and ITC, they will resist your control spells 13-15% of the time.

Yeah impact shot is what they spam all day but I don't have so much trouble since the stun was fixed to on impact and not to when they throw it. I actually dodge the second and following impacts quit often but good players you would see it coming because they don't spam it. Lashing isn't used so much in premise but he isn't playing premides yet so he probably will see lashing more than normal at level 40. Tr's that are halfling can be extremely hard to control if they are really good do to what is stated above they are either stealted, in their flurry, or itc and they get their racial bonus to resist it. You can mostly tell how good the tr is by how they do their duelist. If they are jump between strike and winding it up before an attach then latch on to you from stealth they are usually pretty good. A good tip at low levels is if your get two shorted cause their a lot of tr's maybe tab shield or icy terrain the cw has a lot of air power that will pull them out of stealth. That's why I love oppressive force you can never see it coming and it stuns and pulls out of stealth forcing them to itc at which you want to put some dot on him so if he re-stealths it pulls them out again. That's why bilethorn is a tr's worse enemy as an enchant put that on and they can almost never use stealth.

Shield/Mastery, Icy Terrain and Steal Time won't save you against decent TRs, they will actually seriously gimp your CW's capability to burst damage the TR.
So they will just prolong the fight a bit and that's all. Semi-useful if you're the only person willing to contest with the TR and so on, but if this happens, the game is more than likely lost already.
At 60 with high end gear, TRs can 2 shot CWs with Impact Shot (2 crits). You will not be able to dodge it if it is done right. The first IS will come from 20' out from stealth and will leave you stunned and a sitting duck for the 2nd incoming attack. You won't see the first coming & you will be stunned when the 2nd hits you. GG your dead. If you survive that ITC comes up & the 3rd impact shot will come at you along with Cloud of Steel if they didn't start with that (it doesn't break stealth). If they are packing LB, it can take out over 80-90% of a health bar on crit, but this is usually dodgeable. If they are using Shadow Strike instead of LB, GG your dead nothing your going to do about it as they can reset the fight & start over.
Basically against a well geared TR that knows what it is doing, just run for your teammates & hope they can save you.

This implies very old builds from both parties. i.e. max damage and low life? Anyone with a newer build can have that TR blow everything, maybe dodge a few times, and then kill the TR in one rotation because he's so squishy. These are the guys that run PVE setups in PVP, and when they come up against real PVP players they get crushed.
Hey guys thanks a lot for the input. Already level 44 and I am STRAIGHT loving my Ice knife. I call my Ice Knife the kill jacker. This is what I am doing so far and at level 44 I have my headhunter title and I got bloodthirsty rank 2 at level 40. But since level 40 when I first got Ice knife it has made the game so much funner. I just for now keep Ray on Tab then hit them twice with Ray and follow up with Ice knife and watch the Cirt (hopefully) one Shot there life Five digit Crits it is insane. I just wish I could build AP faster to Spam Ice knife. I watched one CW do it that I was up against she was hitting IK every 30-60 seconds but was also using a different set up and was going CRAZY in mid. I practiced in dummies and get close but still a way off.
Lets not forget Elven Battle enchant. Anywhere from +50% to 200% control resist, which in this case reduces duration. I see this a lot on my CW picking up someone to only have them choked for a split second.
Foundry - Fight Club? (nw-dluqbofu7)
- JailBreak (in development)

Of course, because 9-12K crits from outside of stealth detection range on close to 1900 defense is easily avoidable if you get a pure PVP spec & stack all HP enchants on belt, pants, chest, and 2 rings (both requiring defense slots)....
Like I said, just run for your team mates & hope they can help you out.
Bad or low geared TRs can easily be beaten, but you won't beat a top end TR by yourself.

The ones I hated the worst where the perma stealth TR's. 50/50 defense/reflect and 10/10 regen/lifesteal they did no damage to me that my unstopable could not heal through but you can not kill what you can not see. So like here I am at base it is perma in play at all times and all I can do is sit there while he throws knifes at my head.
Now my concern is if I DO decide to do some end game PVP as it seems like there was always about 3 or four perma stealth rouges every stinking match yet only 1 would be actually skilled enough to stay perma stealth that these guys throwing the knives at me poor lil CW's head will eat me alive as I would lack the DR/Deflect and healing to deal with them. Sure I can probably stack extra Regen on my CW to give a little extra regen but if they make me use unstopable to heal myself on my tanky GWF good lord knows what they could do to my CW wearing cloth.

You can use oppressive force, steal time, shield on mastery and even icy terrain in an attempt to unstealth them. You will however lack the burst to kill them afterwards. If you get good HP and regen and gear you might be able to last long enough until somebody helps you... but that would be it.
Anyway it's good that a GWF actively plays a CW and posts here, you can see what the class is going through in PvP. Let's hope you make it to 60 and keep going.

Yeah sad I only played GWF since the beginning. I always built him even before the buffs and nerfs to stay alive no matter what. I never had a need or desire to play another class. Yet for some odd reason I decided to switch things up a little. I cap rough diamonds everyday by buying PVP gear and then salvaging it every since that option was available. I guess just got kinda old after a while.
I guess the switch came one day when I actually got beat fair match by a CW she was so powerful. I stuck on her like glue I did. Using threatening rush and combining it with restoring strike to stay alive through her burst. It was the first time I was not able to take on a CW or survive there burst. She just hit that hard. So I was like welll I have a CW I have sitting there collecting dust that I only use for Tradeskills. Why not actually play it and figure out HOW she burst me down so easily.
The one spell I know she used was Shard of Avalanche. The rest is kind of a mystery. I laughed when she challenged me to a Duel too. I was like what you beat me? Yeah tell me how that is gonna work out for you. When she did I felt pretty stupid. It was one of the most epic and best duel I have ever experienced in a PVP match and I want to learn how she got so good and the only way to learn is to play the class and learn it like she did.
Maybe one day my CW will get good enough to kill a GWF one versus one. Not counting on it but you just never know.
Another problem I am having is my procs - rimfire or plague fire is removing my stacks of chill. I can not figure out which one is doing it. Yet my stacks of chill keep disappearing which is a huge dps loss to me.
N/M figured out it was my shard of avalanche. I watched very carefully and saw that the shard is removing my chill stacks.
its its impossible to catch just count 4 seconds or so. after you see it pop. place your dots if you have any, and get your icy rays ready. as soon as it wears off thats when you unload. good TRs however will not give you this opportunity.
One time vs a stealth rogue i had to put on steal time because it locks on despite them being in stealth. A good TR is probably my worst nightmare, i usually end up just walking away from them and finding other prey.
Oh and using ray of frost is great for burning away their stealth meter.
Best TRs I fought seem like they are completely immune to CC because they utilise the 3rd frame of Duelist Flurry at its maximum. During that time they are immune to any form of CC. The trick is to get from stealth to the 3rd frame directly and then activate Impossible to catch during the intervals. You do that by jumping+Duelist Flurry the first two frames and land exactly in melee distance for the 3rd frame to hit full.
So, the best setup you are going to see TRs play are Impact Shot/Shadow Strike/Impossible to catch. If their latency is too low (that is Americans), you will probably see some Lashing blades also.
The best thing you can do is learn the timing between their Flurry frames and dodge accordingly. This requires skill/luck and probably a TR's mistake. That said, CW against TR is as tough as it gets. Even tougher than cookie cutter GWF with Roar.

This is coming from a TR, and understand, I'm not the best TR but I use Duelist flurry all the time,,its my only at will I use for both pvp and pve and my own experience, unless its a perma stealth build you aren't going to do well with it,,
as far as the CW goes ,,, the problem is the new artifacts sadly ,,, instead of balance they made the game worse by incorporating these, i am trying to farm glory for the power one myself ,, as far as ray of enfeeblement ,, as someone said its ITC that works really well against controls (except roots but I've said my peace with that subject). i also have a end game cw I'm working on getting gear for (well two but the first got screwed up trying fire bs which was terrible in my opinion). also if A GWF goes into unstoppable, Ray of enfeeblement doesn't seem to effect them either.
someone mentioned halfling resist, my TR is a halfling and resist is not that effective trust me. TR is gear dependent like a HAMSTER. being under geared myself I know that for a fact LOL ,,,
so in conclusion the end game CW is right now kinda screwed with TRS and GWFs if they get close to you ,, its over.

N/M figured out it was my shard of avalanche. I watched very carefully and saw that the shard is removing my chill stacks.
One time vs a stealth rogue i had to put on steal time because it locks on despite them being in stealth. A good TR is probably my worst nightmare, i usually end up just walking away from them and finding other prey.
Oh and using ray of frost is great for burning away their stealth meter.
and also the featured satirical comedic adventure "A Call for Heroes".
