Depending upon the going price, you may be better off investing in 4 blue workers instead. There are mass-tasks for other professions that can take them all - and if you're just looking to unlock the slot, it shouldn't matter which profession you use...

It certainly does but it is a grossly expensive way to open that slot. An easier alternative may be to consider buying whatever other profession has cheap Master level blue craftsmen on the AH (they are not bound on use so you can use them, mail to your alts, and sell back to AH on completion).
Eg. Articifing uses Master Articifers which are generally cheap. The level 1 task Deep Wilderness Gathering uses cheap mats and has primary plus 3 speed slots meaning your 4 x cheap 25% Masters give you the 100% task bonus and open that particular profession slot.

Just a correction - the "deep wilderness gathering" task GETS you low-level materials - it doesn't cost any to run it.

Yeah, Leadership is always best run as the second or even third Profession, allowing you to:
1) Get some of the actually useful Craftable Items while you are still low enough level to actually USE them and
2) Unlock some of those Slots quickly and easily. Leadership will take a LONG time to level to 20 if you are doing nothing else, many times longer than other Professions. On the other hand, if you have already gotten, say 6-8 slots open, then it will move up relatively quickly.

Yes, Artificing or Weaponsmithing may be the way to go. Very cheap to buy 4x Blue crafters.
