Searching for an explanation of necrotic damage

Greetings,

I have been searching for a description of necrotic damage, one that will explain how it differs from other types of damage and how or if it is mitigated. I have been unable to locate such a description. Would anyone be able to enlighten me?

    Nothing special about Necrotic damage. Just that some sources of that damage quite often have or had additional effects, like ignoring Damage Resistance of damage immunities.

    There are no official descriptions for the in-game types of damage, nor anything particularly special about them, by contrast to lore/story. They are just different labels for damage.

    Perhaps in future, there could be different types of "resistances" available to players or mobs with particular sensitivity to specific damage types, but, afaik, no such distinctions exist in the present game, or if they do, they are very minor and their exact mechanics remain unexplored by players.
